I quite like the BMW mapping but there is one serious flaw that may end up driving me away - why can't I assign a friendly name to map destinations? Am I missing something? Is there a better way?

Not being able to assign a friendly name to a destination will drive you away from the X5??? Really, is that all it takes?

Not sure what the info is you can edit but assuming you only want to assign a friendly name to a recurring destination, try this.. ..

The 50e is my first BMW and will not be my last - I am a convert. It will certainly take a lot more than mapping to change my mind. I meant change to Waze, Google etc.

Ok, I just went out and followed the instructions I posted and it worked. You first make the destination a Favorite, then you can edit its name to whatever you want That was on page 13 of the Navigation manual.

You can also get to any part of the manual directly via iDrive or you can plug your vin into the BMW owners manual website to get to the manual for your optioned car --> https://www.bmwusa.com/owners-manuals.html

Thanks Marty in NY for taking the time and effort to give me the stepwise. I have tested this out on the v8 LCI and unfortunately there doesn't appear to be the option to modify the address name, which I find odd. hey ho

You press the option button in pre lci, is there an equivalent in lci.

I bought a separate manual for navigation from dealer as not covered in manual. May be one available for LCI, it was cheap for BMW.

It seems odd to me that they would have taken this feature away in the LCI as its a fairly common thing people want to do. I can certainly believe they changed how it works though. How far were you able to get? Were you able to create a favorite destination?

Their is an "Option" button to the bottom right of my 50e controller.
I don't know if that works with the favorites but I'll check it out...

That is the Option button I pressed to get the edit menu for the Favorites on my 40i

I've created favourites, drop pins, deleted them etc. etc. navigating Navigation appears logical

Just checked out the Controller and seen that there is actually an Option 'button'. And, what a revelation, it does bring up a sub-menu that has the option to Edit the name

Glad you have option button, you also need it to update apps, it seems to be in same place as pre LCI.

Marty, our friend is Welsh. If your home town was named Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, you'd want to assign it a friendlier name too.
