do you have this dilema?

I have logic 7 stereo and I really like it. I also like to listen to my car engine. With logic 7 on, I cannot lisense to the engine. If I listen to the engine, I cannot use my logic 7. You get it.

oops I spelled listen wrong (I wrote license which is what I was doing at work - dealing with software licenses at the moment).

Put a mic in the engine compartment and link it to the stereo. Then you can listen to the car over logic 7.

Do you mean you want to listen to your engine? Not the sharpest tack in the toolbox eh?

Yes, I know what you are saying. I don't even have Logic 7, but I enjoy listening to music while I drive, whether iPod, CD, or radio.... but like you said, there is the dilemma of my music vs the engine's music. I enjoy both.

simple solution, record the engine sound, listen to music on logic 7 while driving and plug the engine recording in your ear when you top driving.

You need a Z4...

Quote:
NOISE is sexy. In the world of the fast car, the greater the racket as the engine shakes windows four streets away, sets off alarms and generally irritates elderly folk with hearing aids, the more potent its performance is sure to be. Watch any four-year-old lad playing with his toy cars. While the car is held in a little fist, scratching gravity-defying turns on the newly painted walls and the polished antique table, the child all the while emits a song of “vrrrroom-vrooms”, roars and wails.

Which is why BMW has decided to make its newest sportscar noisier. In an automotive world in which designers and engineers spend hundreds of man-years giving car interiors the deathly hush of a funeral parlour, the goal with the Z4 has been the opposite, with BMW experts trying to pump as much engine noise into the two-seat cabin as possible.

Duncan Forrester, of BMW, said: “We set out with the Z4 to bring the engine noise back into the cabin. With a car like this, it is essential that the driver can hear the engine, what it is doing, and what is going on under the bonnet.”

Actually your complain is not as outrageous as everyone else here might think. I believe it was Ferrari that specially built a tunnel to channel engine tone into the car... or was it Porsche. Either way, on the most recent issue of Roundel magazine, they reviewed the 325i on a test track. One of the few minor complains the writers had were that the car was TOO quiet. They couldn't hear the engine tone and thus must refer to the tach in order to see their RPM range as oppose to listening to the motor. Their suggestion of remedy is to get an aftermarket exhaust. Louder tone, and you have your solution.

Maybe what we need is a 'smart' logic 7 that can turn down the radio/CD volume when the engine is singing during acceleration. I do not need much of a mechanical sound fix cruising at a steady speed on the highway, so logic 7 can amp up then and put me in a concert hall.

BMW does it with the Z4

Here's from the initial Car and Driver review in January 2003...

So, what about that engine Muzak thing? Here's how it works: There's a black plastic tube about three inches in diameter connected to the intake system between the air filter and engine. The tube wends its way rearward to the fire wall, connecting just above the driver's footwell. It is, in effect, a subwoofer for the engine. You know a tube subwoofer — a large-diameter speaker mounted in one end of a tube that produces big fat low-frequency sound waves and makes your license plate vibrate.

Get an aftermarket exhaust by a good company that will amplify the sound of your car. Get an Eisenmann, or B & B, whatever you do don't try to make on yourself out of a pep boys exhaust.

I understand your dilemma...

On my previous e46 330i, the intake/engine growl was orgasmic! I loved bringing it up past 4500-6000 rpm.

On the e90 330i, this wonderful sound has been filtered out of the cabin too effectively in the name of refinement.

The only way to have the best of both worlds is to turn your L7 down just before you take off from the lights. Do your acceleration thing with your car and once up to speed, L7 comes back up again.

I understand and sympathise with your dilemma
