Siri is silent when attempting to repeat back dictated message before sending

Siri has no problem reading texts I’ve received. When I dictate a message, she starts repeating it back to me, "...it says...<silence>...it says" and then asks if I’m ready to send. If I choose to send, it does actually go through.

I tried this with two different iPhones, a 15 Pro Max and a 13 Pro. It happened with both. I suspect it's an iDrive 8.5 problem (I'm on 07/2023.53) since it worked fine on iDrive 8.0. I guess it could also be something related to iOS 17.

Has anyone else encountered this behavior?

Are you saying that when you dictate a message when you’re connected CarPlay that it doesn’t read the message back to you before sending?? Try this setting about mid way down in the Siri settings in your phone
I don’t need Siri reading my messages back to me so this is how my iPhone settings are configured.

I've had this happen... I didn't pay much attention until you mentioned it. I have iPhone 15 Pro Max... Which came first the chicken or the egg (iPhone vs BMW)? Each company always say it's the other.

Hi, yes, that’s what I’m saying. I’m aware of that setting but I do in fact want a read-back before sending, just in case.

Someone on reddit said he’s had it happen in some Lexus models, too.

Mine still does this. But if I tap "Review" on the screen it'll read it. I like to make sure Siri didn't write something goofy before it sends.
