Mistake not ordering the extended shadowline trim

I don't like the black gloss front grill. But.. I even more don't like the chrome exhaust surrounds that came with the MSport version of my 40i

So I should have ordered the extended shadowline to get the black chrome exhaust surround and then swapped out the front grill for my preferred Cerium grey grill. That's easy. Swapping out the exhaust surrounds is a biatch.

Extended Shadowline Trim
$300
Highlight the dramatic aesthetics of your vehicle by adding expressive visual enhancements to the kidney frame, an air breather inlay and tailpipe finishers in black chrome, as well as kidney struts in striking, black high-gloss.

I was smart in ordering the spare tire so that I have one when I ditch the run flats for some decent tires.

The blacked out look is all the rage right now. Might not be in a few years. I remember ordering my E46 3 series. The more expensive model 328 was all chromed up, while the cheaper 323 was black trim. It will flip back again at some point.

I paid a local shop to change the chrome to painted black exhaust surrounds. It cost less than $400 and he kept my original parts to repaint and sell to someone else. Painted surrounds are glossier than the extended shadowline and I like that look, but if you really want the less glossier extended shadowline you can buy them although they are a bit expensive.

If you have the right tools, it does not require removing the entire bumper. One side is a lot harder than the other.

Ben at RG Sport Shop in Irwindale, CA did the replacement for me.
