No Highway Assistant in Driving Assistance Professional Package for M

Any idea why they skipped updating the DAPP package on the M to include Highway Assistant?

It would be great to get the updated functionality and hardware (if present).

Is this still the case? Or did the 8.5 update unlock this?

I’m hearing mixed reports. Ordered an X5 M60i but would consider switching to an X5 MC if I can indeed get it with the full fledged highway driver assistant functionality up to 85 MPH.

I'm not sure about the current status. I'm getting conflicting (maybe inaccurate) information. It may be best to check with the person helping you with the order - yesterday, someone posted that it is possible to configure a X5M LCI with Highway Assist now -- it would be great if someone can confirm this with BMW's ordering system.

I do not belive the full Driving Assistance Professional Package is available for the F95/F96 as it is still a $1,700 option on the online configurater, whereas the M60i has the $2,100 option which has the following disclaimer “Included in this package is the Highway Assistant feature which is provided for the first 8 years after vehicle sale. The feature will disable after that time.”

I do not foresee this option coming to the F95/F96 platform, as the XM is a different story.

BTW I recently tested this option out on a X5 40i and I found zero use of this option.

Hi guys I wanted to review this topic. It seems that there is a lot of confusion regarding which features of the driving assistance are available on each car.

From what I can tell, the active lane keep assist, active cruise control etc is available on all X5 X6. This includes the traffic jam hands off (up to 45 mph).

Hands off driving up to 85 mph is NOT available on X5M / X6M, but is on all other trims.

The “change lane by looking in the mirror” option is coming in cars built after March.

I haven’t heard anything regarding 2025 models (but some say anything ordered after march will be a 2025).

If anyone has updated information (or corrections for anything I wrote above) please add.

I do hope the hands off driving comes to x5M. It honestly doesn’t make sense that the most expensive trim model wouldn’t have access to the most expensive options.

It's not coming to the M models and here is a press release confirming it.

BMW hasn't even got Highway Assist working on most highways here in Canada yet.

Literally a useless feature so far.

Yeah heard the news that highway assist (hands free over 40mph) was not going to be available on the M and was really bummed.
But had the car for 8 months now and about 5K miles with lots of highway driving, including a trip to LA and I do NOT miss that feature at all. Honestly I occasionally use it on bumper to bumper traffic and really does a good job. But over 40mph I really enjoy driving and steering the car myself and I wouldn’t have used that feature anyway.

Now maybe in a few years the drive might get old, by then I’ll probably be driving something else anyway

As an F95 LCI owner, I'll say that the "regular" highway assist works pretty well at normal interstate cruising speeds, and this is coming from someone who was initially very disappointed that we weren't getting the full Highway Assist package. You have to keep a hand on the wheel (hands on knees with the back of your hand touching the wheel is enough...), but otherwise the car steers itself just fine at 80+mph. The risk is that there's no camera monitoring of the driver, so you have to police yourself to ensure you're not distracted. On a long road trip, it's more than adequate. I even use it on the morning commute in 65mph traffic pretty often, particularly when I'm not in a huge hurry.

Using the full hands free below 40mph is a bigger leap of faith for me than trusting the semi-automatic above 40mph - I like still having a (literal) hand in the game, even if I'm only there to intervene if I don't like what the computer's doing.
