DINAN EXHAUST Question.

Any one running this with secondary downpipes? I have the downpipes plus an Xpipe in the middle. It's REALLY loud on cold startup in the morning. Closing the exhaust flap doesn't do much on the OE exhaust. I'm wondering if the Dinan is quieter with the flap closed and louder with it open. At least that's what I'm hoping for.
I get Dinan stuff at wholesale, so that's another reason I'm looking at at that particular brand.

I've been considering a cold start delete just so my neighbors don't hate me as much when I do the xpipe and muffler.

I ordered the Dinan controller to try.
I tested the sound difference with wet rags packed in the outer pipes, on cold startup, and it made more difference than I thought it would.
Unless something has changed, I can't just tune out the cold start on a '21

You need to just plumb a water tank and run wet exhaust like a boat.

No idea why cold starts has to be so damn loud on M cars. I have to start my car with the garage door closed so my neighbors don't hate me because they all have teslas and toyotas. Its a ritual for me that goes - remote start the car inside the garage, wait 10-15 seconds for the rpms to come down then immediately open the garage door before I go inside.

You're mad about an M car being loud? Think about that...

Think you misunderstood. I mod all of my cars and have dinan/akra on this one to make it louder while i'm driving.

I don't need it at max volume during cold starts at 6am in the morning. Even when my exhaust was stock the cold start volume wasn't much quieter to be honest.

I’m surprised my neighbors like me. My X3M is actually a louder cold start then my X5M and I leave for the gym at 4:45am.

The cold start routine is for emissions. It pulls a bunch of timing out of it, which drives the exhaust temps up, to heat the cats faster.
That kind of fart sound on an aggressive upshift is sort of the same. The computer pulls timing to reduce torque, which makes the exhaust much louder during the shift.
I should have a Dinan controller tomorrow. Hopefully, it will work on the cold start.

Word for word the same for me

I have a "new" right hand side nearest neighbour who hasn't yet moved in ... so I have the "luxury" of a X5MC with full Akra cold start without upsetting a neighbour ... for a month or so!

I always feel bad when I fire mine up but one day I apologized to my neighbor on that side and asked if it was bothersome or if they could hear it inside their house. The answer was "yes and we love it". So maybe some of it is all in our own heads?

OK. I installed the Dinan Controller today and it works as advertised. Push the button and the valve snaps shut immediately. Hit it again and it opens. There is a significant difference in loudness. It was pretty easy to install as well. I think it took about a half hour.
Pretty good for $200.

I wouldn’t spoil your neighbor with quiet car.

I have a dyno at my shop. When the building in front of mine was for sale, I'd see potential buyers with their realtors or attorneys coming to look at it. I'd put the loudest car I had on the dyno and let it rip up to 140 MPH or so, just to let them know what they were in for.

I have the same issue with the cold start. I went with the Dinan exhaust setup and as much I love the sound, it’s super loud at cold start. When you install the Dinan control, does it come with an additional remote or can it be wired into the internal valve control button inside next to the gear shift?

Has anyone swapped out the exhaust tips for OEM style where they're at an angle? I really don't like how the Dinan tips since they're squared and think they look out of place. The titanium exhaust systems seem to have the tips I'm talking about and not sure why Dianan went the route that they did.

Edit: I'm not sure if these would fit, but it's an option if they're the same size.

As you mentioned, those won’t fit as they were designed to be a direct replacement of the OEM tips. I wasn’t fond of the Dinan tips myself so I opted to powder coat them gloss black to give it a more integrated look to go with all the other gloss black parts.

That looks a lot better! I just prefer the tips set at an angle.

Anyone have any videos? There only seems to be one or two floating around online. My wife has been bugging for a new exhaust and Dinan seems pretty reasonable

How much did you pay for the installation if you don't mind sharing? A local Charlotte shop quoted me $1250 (parts plus labor).
