Tire temperature variation
‘24 X5MC, approaching 4,000 miles.
I’ve noticed that the front drivers side tire reports warmer than the rest during driving. During my typical 10 mile, 30 minute mixed highway and surface streets commute, it will end up about 10F warmer than the other three. This is very consistent. I perceive after a drive that it is slightly warmer by hand / touch as well, but this is qualitative and perceptual. Lately I’ve heard a minor squeal braking to a stop, and thought about setting up an appointment. Before I did, wanted to do a sanity check - what temp variations do you all normally see as reported by the TPMS? |

There was a post asking this very question awhile back. The conclusion is that its normal for the front driver side to show higher temps on this platform. There must be something in that area generating more heat than the passenger side. My car is no different since new.

22 X5MC with 13,500 miles. I also have the same thing happening. It seems to be normal. I assumed it due to weight distribution, since the driver is in the drivers seat it’s a little heavier on that part of the car, it runs hotter on that tire. I made this assumption because the temp for all 4 tires reads the same when the tires are cold.
Not sure if scientifically that even makes sense but yeah… lol |

There are multiple ways, but I always use this button (keep pressing it until the tire pressure one comes on) on the left stalk of the steering wheel.

Thank you! I haven’t even found that button yet. So much to discover on these cars!

In reality, a 10F temperature difference will have zero effect on a car's behavior unless you are competing on a track.
Do all your tires have the same air pressure? Personally, I pay more attention to pressure rather than the temp. Good luck 😊 |

BMW sticks the oil and/or auxiliary radiator right in front of the front wheel well. The air blows through the front, lower bumper inlets, through the radiators and the exits in front of the tire(s). That's why the temp is higher on that wheel. If you look in front of the tires, there are louvers where the hot air exits.
