Will it shut off by itself?

loving the car so far, but I guess the car is just a bit too smart for me. For example, it would be nice to be able to actually shut the radio/display off. i know you can mute sound, and i know you can black out the display but an on/off button would be nice. guess i'm a bit old fashioned.

Also, this has happened twice. was detailing the car today, got inside to wipe down the inside and i guess i hit the idrive controller and the display came on along with the music (see point above). i didn't have the key with me. got out, shut the door and came back 15 minutes or so later and the music is still going. is there a way to shut the car off? i went in to the house to get my key, locked the car and it shut off.

it's like you have to be careful to not touch ANYTHING if you happen to have to go into the car to get something, otherwise all systems are a go. Am i missing something?

If you push and hold the volume button for a few seconds it will shut everything down.

I hold the volume button down 5 seconds all the time to shut the iDrive down manually. It’s very convenient when working around the car. Open and close the door and it will come back to life.

You can turn it off any time. Select OPTIONS (Lower right button relative to iDrive wheel) and the option is there. Same as my f86. I suspect same across iDrive board.

Mine shuts off as soon as I open the driver's door.

Mine does too. i think we're talking about something different. if you go into the car as i mentioned in my first post and accidentally touch a button or screen, the monitor comes on and music starts playing. the only way i could shut it off (before seeing some answers here) was to go get my keys, and either lock the car, or start it and turn it off again.
