Trip Odometer

I haven’t done an exhaustive search, but I just noticed I haven’t seen a trip odometer and more importantly, no trip odometer reset button where I used to reset warnings, service mileage, etc.

...insight on this anyone?

It was one of Consumer Reports complaints (they had very few) but apparently the trip reset is buried in a menu 2 or 3 levels deep. It definitely has a trip odometer somewhere.

You can reset the displayed value by pressing and holding the turn signal button.

Yes. It's in the owners manual.

You must not have one yet. Worthless post.

Hmmm, I thought the same, but he’s actually not totally wrong, just checked, he just left out a step. You have to toggle to where you see the “individual mileage” first, then you can reset it by holding the button at the end of the turn signal. It isn’t on display unless you do that.

So “individual mileage” apparently = trip odometer.

Oh, yeah, sorry. The value must be selected to reset it, pressing and releasing the button changes what's displayed.

Still good info, thanks! Saved me the horrors of actually reading the manual. That’s what this forum is for... I know, right?

Just saw the pic you added PhatBoyG, What’s with BMW, who would think to look for Odometer under “resetting average values”?

No worries, thank you.

I'll admit to spending way too many hours reading the manual while I am waiting for my X5.

I doubt it, but I'll ask. By any chance did BMW install 2 trip meters like just about every other brand does? Or are they still stuck in the 70's with 1 trip meter?

When she told me to drive next door to the hotel, it took me a second to realize it was so the X5 could get a better signal.

I've only seen one, you can set it to auto reset in the menu on fill up or trip start. Good to know about the stalk reset, I was constantly going into the menu.

For ease of access I just had a 'widget' in my second home screen that if you select takes you to the trip reset options.

If it's like the F15, there is the trip odometer that is described above that can be selected and reset with the button on the end of the turn signal stalk. There is also a separate trip information function, that includes odometer, mpg and average speed that can be accessed and reset in the idrive menu under vehicle information if I remember correctly. They operate as 2 distinct and separate functions. I don't have a G05 yet, but based on the similarities of the turn signal stalk function, I wouldn't be surprised if the similarities in function exists in the idrive menu also.

This is the same way it operates in the G01.
Still wish it had a Trip A and Trip B. Guess it's to expensive to include it.

Then why not call it a "trip odometer" instead? Typical BMW over-engineering, I guess.

There are four different data buckets that can be used/displayed so a general trip odometer label wouldn't fit.
