Bmw Advanced Car Eye 2.0

The full-HD wide-angle camera automatically records certain driving situations. The detailed video is also saved automatically. Various sensors on the light-sensitive camera, as well as excellent signal processing, mean the camera is capable of recording high-quality images during the day and at night. The highly sensitive GPS receiver enables recording of the road and speed. The G sensor detects impacts. Ambient movements are detected and analyzed by radar technology. The design of the Advanced Car Eye 2.0 match the BMW vehicle design and therefore looks perfectly at home in the vehicle.
The rear screen camera included in the package cannot be installed on convertibles and on cars with a rear window roller blind (for example SA 415 or SA 416).

Includes free SD card.

If installed prior to the delivery to the client, BMW Original Accessories installed on/in the vehicle will carry the full New Vehicle Limited Warranty (4-Year / 50,000-Mile). If the installation is performed after the retail sale of the vehicle, the accessory is warrantied for the balance of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period, or two years from its date of installation, whichever is greater.

So... this isn't like ordinary dash cams right? It doesn't continuously record?

Would think the models with 3d view could do the same thing?

I got an email about this today, but could not find a post about someone using it with a loaded G05.

I find it odd that with more than 7 cameras on loaded g05 we need to use basic solutions like this

Exactly, why don't use existing camera and update software as Tesla does.

Because why would they give any feature for free?

I'd like to pay for this feature/software, if it's available.
But not another camera.

It's just a dash cam. BMW slapped their logo on it, so now it's a lifestyle item. I guess the one positive for some people would be to have it installed at the dealer so it would be covered by warranty. My dash cam, that I installed myself, is much better looking and unobtrusive (Blackvue) and has been working trouble free for 4 years now. But it does bring up the bigger question that I have been asking for several years... Why don't manufacturers have a more built in version. As people have already pointed out, the hardware (or close proximity to it) is already there, just add a little software and design the cameras to be flexible enough to serve dash cam purposes as well as their current duties for parking assist and lane keep, etc.

Does anyone know what the monthly subscription fee is to get the videos on a smartphone?

This was my first thought when I got the email announcing this device. This functionality, save for mobile recording management, was enabled in my Tesla through an OTA update. But as was mentioned, a free option is not the BMW model.

funnily enough, i was at the dealership this weekend; finding out more about when my replacement G05 will be arriving, and we touched base on the dashcam 2,
apparently the dashcam has a built in sensor which records if it senses any movement around the car when it is parked and will save the recording.

have decided to order one and get dealership to install when my new G05 arrives as some numpty hit my courtesy car whilst it was parked in a car park, thankfully the damage was minimal, naturally why would said numpty leave a note saying sorry or admitting liability and incurring a cost when they could just drive away

thankfully the dealerships valet was able to polish out the damage and get the car looking to how it should be.

speaking to the sales manager, he mentioned the dashcam and said this would have picked up the incident, so it was a no brainer considering how much i am forking out for the car.

for the price of the cam and the additional functionality it offers the cost is easily off set against the value of the car and if some numpty does hit you and drive off, well you would "potentially" have the recording as long as it was hit on front or back.

not sure about other countries but in the UK it is a well known insurance scam where people will slam their brakes on in front of you, so you hit them and then the claims of "personal injury" begin and so forth.

i think with the dash cam at least you would have a fighting chance of arguing this in court, if this was sadly to happen.

Did you consider alternative dashcams which are smaller/neater than the BMW version? I've ruled it out as it's so intrusive on the windscreen, and am planning to get a BlackVue instead.

Where are you getting the BMW dashcam fitted?

hey buddy, to be honest i havent (pure laziness on my behalf); it just came up in convo when i popped in saturday,

this one does not violate the warranty as well, and its one less headache, if something goes wrong... its their headache not mine...

am kind of always looking for simple solutions now when it comes to BMW. their product = their headache when it goes wrong!

i am getting it done at my local dealer when the car arrives (Berry BMW) << they are a good bunch...

Does the 32GB card indicate a low bitrate and that the card likely cannot be replaced with newer edition?

bmwlifer Do you do a side-by-side comparison with the BlackVue? If so, I would like to see your list.

Call me cynical but I bet the dealer has the intern go out and cause "just the right amount" of damage to the loaner so he can pitch and sell you the dashcam

I am being asked for cam components and max card sizes.

Does anyone know where I can find a technical data sheet on this unit?

I’ve had it fitted to my new X5 which I pick up tomorrow so will let you know if it senses movement around the car when parked and also post any data sheets / manuals I get. I’m UK based.

Here are some specs of the camera:

1080p60 front, 1080p30 rear (no mention of which sensor they use)
Wifi/BT
GPS
Radar motion detection? <-- According to FCC filing, it uses K band - ugh for radar detectors

This according to FCC filing: https://fccid.io/WHBRCAREYE20

This thread may interest some, although it offers no relief for those of us who used radar detectors and must defend at K band police radar:
