Order to delivery time for X5 50e
I was told by a Phoenix area dealer that if I ordered a X5 50e today it would take 5 months before delivery. I'm just wondering if others around the U.S. are hearing the same thing?

Sounds like your dealer gets very few allocations and has a waiting list. Excluding the delay for the Executive package we have seen no unusual delays.

I've spoken with multiple Phoenix dealers. One of them has an ETA for a September delivery and another for August--so not quite 5 months, but longer than I would have liked.
Which dealer did you visit and what price are they offering? |

50e allocations are not plentiful so my guess is there is a big demand for them in your area. Also keep in mind that we are coming up on June so those allocations are for July builds which for those that occur at the end of the month would not be delivered until August. If it was built in the beginning of the month it would be a July delivery.

Depending on how bad you want it, start calling all the small town BMWs around you, if nothing pans out call further out. Most dealerships will happily ship the car to you these days, further more they may even trade an allocation with your local dealership.
I got lucky and found a May Allocation in late April. It was the only 50e allocation they had. They said maybe August/Sept for the next one. |

I ordered by 50e on 4/7/23 and will pick it up (PCD) on 6/21/23. I had to push that back one week due to my schedule. So, about 10 weeks or week 24.

I ordered my 50e on March 22. It's production day is today, and it's in QC this morning. It did paint and started assembly, yesterday morning. My PCD is 6/9, if nothing changes.

My 50e is out of QC and Awaiting Carrier Assignment, this morning. I will still be waiting for the PCD in June, but if not, I likely would be picking it up at the dealer by Wednesday to Friday. Almost exactly two months from order to driving. It’s a 50e with Executive package and climate control, but I didn’t have the wait or restrictions that some X5s have had.

As for wait times on the 50e, I am not sure. Earlier this year the wait time for the 45e was very short, like 1 month before getting an allocation. I had a friend that ordered a 45e in January 2023 and took delivery in March 2023. I purchased my '23 BMW X5 45e from BMW North Scottsdale last year and the experience was excellent overall (they do give you the usual offers during financing talk time). I ended up getting the car about 2 months earlier than they originally predicted (~7 month wait time back then). They were a self-described 'MSRP' dealership when I was there, even had a giant 'MSRP dealership' sign above the main entrance. Here are the dealers in the Phoenix area, I have been to all of them except BMW of Tucson: 1. BMW Arrowhead 2. BMW North Scottsdale 3. Chapman BMW Camelback (fairly small) 4. Chapman BMW Chandler 5. BMW of Tucson (down in Tucson) |

Yes. I ordered on 3/22, and the order was accepted on 3/24. About 3/27, I emailed my CA that I wanted PCD. He contacted the Performance Center, and 4/25, both he and BMW emailed my confirmation. My CA also told me my build week. The date could change, due to whatever…but so far, my build was as scheduled, and nothing has changed. You might have thought I was saying I’d either do PCD OR dealer delivery. I mean that I am doing PCD, but if I hadn’t chosen PCD, the delivery at the dealer would be this next week. PCD adds a minimum of two weeks.
From the confirmation email: “ Please do not make any travel arrangements until two-weeks prior to your delivery date. Due to production schedules, weather, or other unforeseeable circumstances, your delivery date may need to be changed prior to that two-week window. In the unlikely event we are notified of a delay for your vehicle, we will contact you immediately to arrange a new date.” Last edited by Sothenisaid; 05-20-2023 at 06:59 PM.. |

There are a ton of slot for 50e in CA/bay area dealers even with some vehicles on lots. Some dealers are willing to ship cars. Maybe call a few dealers from sf bay area and try your luck.

Thanks everyone for your good information. I'll will probably wait to order until July to make sure iDrive 8.5 is part of the package.
A related question...how do the dealers handle a trade when the wait may be as much as 4-5 months? I assume they won't give you a firm offer consequently you are at their mercy for the final price at delivery. |

You can pre-trade at their current offer but that only works if you have another car to drive. If they try to screw you over when your order arrives, you can always sell elsewhere, but you’ll lose the tax savings. If you order now, your vehicle won’t be built until July/August anyway and that might not even matter for iDrive 8.5 from what I’ve read. The only reason to wait would be if the market gets more competitive and prices go down a bit more. I was able to get a decent price now, so I’m pulling the trigger. |

It's crazy how priority US orders seem to get. While mine's an individual color I ordered on 1st of March and expect production around Week 26. There's plenty of others in Germany though without individual color who ordered in February even and are looking at a production in June, some even July. I remember back in mid-April you could expect a production sometime around August. Right now some dealers are even talking about Q1/Q2 in 2024 ...

In most states however (including AZ) trading in your car will reduce the sales tax by that amount. "Most states require sales tax to be paid only on the difference between the price of your trade-in and the vehicle you're buying, not the full price of the next car. But this tax benefit doesn't apply if you sell your old vehicle yourself. " - Consumer Reports. Sales tax in the Valley is about 9%, so the trade-in value is worth the 9% in tax savings on the trade-in as well. For example a $15,000 trade becomes $16,350 with the tax savings. So I would say it is a good idea to know what you could sell your old car for up-front before going in there. If the trade-in is only $1,000 short it might be worth just doing. More than than that, maybe not. |
