Removal of HK speaker covers

Hey guys! So I found some Bowers speaker covers on AliExpress and wondered if anyone has done the install? If so how did they go along removing the speaker covers?

I'm sure someone can give you detailed instructions on how to do this, but I just have to ask: why would you go through all this trouble to pretend you have the B&W system in your car by swapping out the speaker grilles?

I'm going full custom audio install, didn't see the point in spending the $6,000 to re-do the whole system anyway. But the light up thing is pretty cool.

I found the B&W system to not have enough bass, with the install of a new system I can have it sounding the way I want.

It's your ride and make it yours whatever you feel like doing with it. No one should assume what is your intention for replacing the grill. Here is a BEV Sound video that might give you some ideas, let us know how it goes:

The tweeters that came with the set are terrible . I am gonna replace them with Alpine SPR-10TW which should arrive in a few days.

You are welcome to put in third party speakers to make it sound the way you want but I still think it's tacky to install the silver B&W speaker grilles, all of which have their logo on it including the one with their name brand right up front for all to see. This is no different than someone who buys a knock off Rolex on the streets of New York. I feel sorry for whatever buyer you're about to dupe whenever you get around to selling your car in the future.

Well to be honest even if I keep my HK sound covers and switch the system I'll be "duping" the buyer anyway since it's a totally custom system. Also I'm going to keep the standard grills so he can always replace them if he wants.

I wish I would have taken some more pictures, but all I can say is that you gotta be patient with this project. The speaker covers on my door were glued to the door panel, had to use some different size wire cutters with some elbow grease! I really don't care about the B&W logo on the speaker covers, I just did it because I like the lights on my tweeters and door panels. Overall, the project took me about 5 hours from start to finish.

You must have had a reall bad day... I stepped into an x5 with the lit up speaker grilles and it's a nice touch in the evening, no one is getting duped.

I have nothing against Gladiators
Thank you brother. The quality on the grills is really good. I got impressed with how accurately they fit in the door panels. To be honest, I would not recommend the speakers they sell, and would recommend replacing the tweeters that come with the covers, they all sound horrible. My plan is to replace all the speakers, hopefully by tomorrow. I haven't done the center channel speaker cover yet, but will get to that as well.

Lol you guys are the reason that I would never buy a used car again if I can help it. It would be one thing if the grilles didn't have a logo. But they do. I've seen a lot of mods here, but this by far is the silliest.

You are so cute and funny

I have to admit that I am not trying to impress/fool anyone by installing these speaker covers. All I am doing is to make myself happy by spending my money. And maybe, I am sorry that I heart some peoples' feelings by posting the above pictures. I would have gotten speaker covers without any logos, but with LEDs, if there was any. With respect.

Ever heard of VIN decoders ?!? That lists all the factory options at the time of purchase ?!? This is the first thing to check before buying an used BMW!

thanks for the pics, those look real good in the evening. Its amazing how quickly they plugged in and matched the interior colors.

I remember in the B&O menu there was a light to change the colors for the speakers individually. Im not sure if you can code that in or does it just switch colors with the rest of the interior now?

also did you install the center speaker?

Yeah that looks great! Good job 👏🏻
People who do this to cars don't ruin them they make them better same as any modifications, if they're not to your taste then you don't have to buy it or do it.

My pleasure. My BMW came with Hi-Fi speakers, so I don't have the option of changing the colors individually, but I have no complaints. I haven't bought the center cover yet. My plan was to purchase those covers individually, first to try them out and make sure that I could install and like the outcome, but it would be on my to do list.

One more questions. Did the kit come with specific color speakers? how else are they lighting up the cone?
