BMW Floating Center Caps..... Pics and info

The oem BMW floating center caps are a easy and effective install to give the wheels a interesting yet subtle look. They use the same technology as the Rolls-Royce center caps by keeping the logo always in the up position regardless how fast or slow your wheels are traveling. This makes sense that BMW finally came out with this for their vehicles as they own Rolls Royce. The part shown below works with all 2019 X5 M-Sport size wheels. I am sure they work with others but only confirmed the M-Sport wheels.

To install these, I recommend you take a old pocket knife and wrap the blade with blue painters tape. Use the blade to carefully pop out the oem center caps. I also recommend waxing your new center caps before install.

As you can see there are plastic clips that hold both sets of caps in place.

The finished product looks exactly like the stock caps except they spin and protrude out 2mm more. This allows the cap to spin without touching the wheel. Now while you slowdown when passing vehicles, they can see the BMW roundel in the wheel upright and not spinning with the wheel. They will wonder what kind of witchcraft BMW uses to defy physics. If your like me, you will pass them so fast they will barely be able to see your license plate so only mall cruising will this mod be noticed.. A good price from a oem BMW dealer is about $80USA for a set of 4.

Bought them today in advance of picking up the X5 in a couple of weeks. I'm a bit scared in taking a pry tool or knife to pull the Center Caps. Any other methods like a suction cup that someone has had any success?

Plastic pry tool will do the trick. Zero risk of damage to the rim or cap being removed

I also ordered one of these but not sure if it will be strong enough. I have the plastic pry tools. I didn't think they were thin enough.

Could work, but the pry tools don't need to be too thin. There's a set on amazon for $8 or $12...5 or 6 different sizes.

Got them. I hope they work. Not confident enough that suction cup will pull them out. If neither works it will have to wait until next year when I go from winters to summers. I may put them on the M2's Summer setup and wait to see if I can get them off. They fit on these.

This doesn't work as the surface needs to be "perfectly" flat. The ridges on the cap prevents an even surface. I tried the plastic pry tool and that was just too flimsy. So I took a tiny flat head screw drive and popped one off. I tried this on my son's M2 OEM wheels. If only he knew LOL.

Yes, absolutely that would be the best way but I have no desire to jack up the car to do that. The other option is to wait until the winter and do that during the change over but I guess that would be the Spring as I wouldn't bother to use them on the winter setup.

They are extremely easy to pop off from the front. Skill level of about 1 out of 5. Once you pry out one edge, use your finger nails to work around and pull out.

Make sure the tool is open(the one side needs to be pushed down, then attach to cap, then close the suction cup handles and it will grasp the cap and pull it free) and is slight damp then close it and it will pop right out. I just did mine the other day, took 2 seconds.

I just made sure the suction part was damp so the suction grabbed it easier.

If they do they'll get a bonus with the M Valve caps. If they wait long enough they'll get the black badging with some dental floss.

If they knock on the door, I'll give them the keys. If you don't tow them right they screw up the suspension.

The fitting is actually different and a lot tighter than the stock caps. It's actually pretty high quality, the clips are a lot larger and stronger. They would need to be pushed out from the inside to get them out. It would be pretty difficult to steal them.
