I used a drop of blue locktite on my threads. No issues at all. I love this cover and have it for both my BMW's. It has protected my key so many times but even more important, the alcantara doesn't let the key slip out of my pockets like with track pants. It also doesn't let my key scratch my phone in my pocket. Like many oem BMW accessories, I think it's a bit pricey but quality built and looks really good.

Where did you buy this one?

I purchased a genuine BMW leather cover for my keys. They had to replace my keys twice already due to abnormal battery drain. Apparently the leather cover pushes onto the key resulting in emptying the battery.

My dealer ordered it. I have both versions one for my M2 Comp and X7M50i key.

I found it on Amazon and EBay for you. Make sure you get a Genuine oem BMW model as there are knockoffs of this that are not made nearly as well.

a challenger appears!

this is the 3d design key fob cover, bought through iND. it also comes in black.

i prefer to clip my keys because they're a tad too bulky

I also got the M Performance one so I'll see if i want to change after a while - it's currently holding my spare key.

I did notice this morning that the car didn't auto lock as I walked away so maybe it is blocking it but I'm not sure. The auto lock/unlock seems a bit inconsistent - sometimes works from far away and sometimes I can walk right up to the car and almost grab the handle before it works. Also seems to be affected by the approach direction.

It is obviously bulkier than some of the other covers shown here but I do like the fact it covers the buttons from accidental pressing. I've had times in the past with previous keys that have opened the boot because of something else in the pocket pressing the key - not something you want in a tight parking spot
This is very helpful information on the OEM key case! Thanks. Lucky I haven't ordered the mocha case yet as I don't think I'd be impressed with the similar yet different colour from a not-cheap OEM case.

These look pretty nice! Would you be able to share more photos up close of the key in the case, to get a feel of the size and bulk? They're not cheap but the curves and clip look of quality.

In my case I did have my airpods in the same pocket. I did put them in a different pocket the next time and seemed to work normally, but since then they've been in the same pocket and seems to work the same.

I still think the angle of approach makes a big difference. If you approach from the front or rear it is almost like the signal is blocked or the sensor only works a certain angle of the handle or something.

Yeah I was a bit disappointed but it's my own fault really for not reading the spec properly - Mocha doesn't equal coffee.
It's still a nice cover and they are never side by side to see the difference. If someone didn't know you were aiming for a match then they wouldn't know you got it wrong - it's not even a close match. Mocha is closer to black than to coffee.

that clip is a handgrey Ti carabiner and it doesn't come with the case. Current prices are actually higher than the 3d design case, haha

From all the chocolate powder, perhaps

Thanks! Looks like a very nice snug fit. I can imagine why carabiners can be expensive, especially if your life hung on it .

Talking Just received this key fob from ETSY for X5

Was looking for something different and saw this on ETSY. It's a little bulky, but appears to be indestructible. It does cover the emergency key and to remove the battery , you would need to remove 4 little screws. I checked to make sure that it would not interfere with auto unlock feature and that appears to be fine. With the cost of a replacement key (in case of damage), i figured it was a worthwhile investment and looks sharp.

It was around $50 bucks with shipping. Never in my wildest dreams would i think i would spend that much on a key fob cover. It's my first BMW and i am still in that honeymoon stage!!

i also eyeballed that on Etsy. for me, practicality reigns over design. i prefer easy removal of the internal key and for battery changes without needing case disassembly (tool or not). it certainly is a looker. enjoy!

i ordered a leather case also off Etsy which appears less bulky than my current case. should arrive tomorrow. i'll f/u with updates...

I agree. If I have to remove any screws or disassemble the case to change the batteries I'm not interested.

I'm still looking...

while my old cover is more protective due to the silicone insert and plastic shell, it's bulky, so i switched to a leather cover from Etsy. i like how it's form-fitting, and its ingeniously simple design overlaps the corner of the emergency key to keep the fob from sliding out. tactile operation of the buttons is possible due to the accurate leather stamping.

requisite features for me: convenient detachment of the emergency key and easy fob removal for battery changes . unfortunately, the Etsy shop recently closed.
