I completely agree with your last point, but it seems so out place for the FIRST ad. I mean, COME ON. When you have an ad showcasing the debut of one of the most sought after cars in the world, one might put a few moments of thought into how they will do that.

It would make sense to throw this ad in the campaign near the middle, or at least using it in some other series of ads; using it as the debut just seems so 'meh'.

first up.. COME ON BMW.. its an M5.. the "M" being for Motorsport! This advert would have been perfect for a 550i or alike, but not an M5

Secondly, that exhaust sounds terrible. Clearly it is just dubbed on, but I hope the real thing is a lot more emotive than that effort!

The M5 campaign is a global campaign run by BMW AG.
The BMW 335d campaign was run by BMW North America via an external agency. BMW North America illustrated that campaign by putting the "professional driver/closed road" to define the point.

I liked this new Porsche ad campaign--"Magic for Everyday." Maybe BMW can promote that Jekel/Hyde personality/dual usage of their M5.

Agree, love the Porsche ad.

In the bigger picture, and in reality the bigger problem, is this M5 is just blah. There's nothing about that screams at me, like a car of this caliber/price range should and has in the past.

BMW will come around with a better commercial at some point once they figure out that portraying their target market isn't as powerful as speaking to that same target's fantasy image of themselves.

Business men who will be driving their M5 at 35MPH don't want see that reality in an ad. It's boring and a little depressing. Give them some images of adventure and conquest and they'll come running.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, I know I might sound like i'm persistent here, but it's definitely not intended as that...why not make a slightly more aggressive ad with a disclaimer then?

I know the first video showed the car in a different light on the track

Like I said, I like the ad and it shows it's the gentleman's super sedan
