I love my X5 but...
I love my X5 but there are 3 small things I would really like to change......
1: Door Mirrors - I want to be able to retract them on the move at any speed, keep them folded and then extend them again when I want, not when it gets to a certain speed. Where I live there are narrow roads where I fear for my mirrors. 2: Ride Height - I have air suspension and I would like a setting to automatically lower the ride height when I park not having to do it manually. 3: Drive Mode - I would like the car to remember my last drive mode, eg, Adaptive, when I restart. I’m sure all of these would just need a software modification. Come on BMW! |

I agree with #2. I love the slammed look when parked. My Jeep Summit would lower when in “park” automatically. Jeep’s air suspension was crude in comparison to what BMW uses but it was a neat trick. On the plus side, I now just automatically hit the lowering button when coming to a stop that way I don’t have to wait for it to lower while in park like I had to do every time in the Jeep.
#1 is illegal to drive without side mirrors in many areas. #3 can be coded. All in all these are first world problems that if you mentioned it outside this forum, people would think your a spoiled Diva.. Like...”My seats on my Gulfstream G650 don’t recline enough and it’s bumming me out.” Last edited by MystroX5; 09-17-2020 at 06:50 AM.. |

Just a correction,#3 CANNOT be coded.
You can code the default driving mode on Startup, I've coded mine to "Adaptive", but you cannot code it to remember the last driving mode you were on when you last parked & switched off. (eg. If you parked and turned off the car in Sports+, it wont start in Sports+ if your default mode at startup is set to Adaptive). You can however code Auto Stop/Start (ASS) to remember the last setting (off or on). |

That's correct - the 2021 X5 doesn't have a way to turn off the automatic start/stop. If you hit the Sport mode button its off but that's it. The BMW Genius rep said it was because of the addition of the 48v electric motor but he also said the AS/S function is almost imperceptible because of the electric motor engaging at start to move the vehicle. I hope so. My X5 is waiting for its production to start. Can't wait to drive it.

Agree with #2. My wife and I are not that tall so getting on and off the vehicle without lowering the car can be annoying. M Sports package so no running board.

Solution is to code to always start in Sport. Unfortunate that BMW doesn't make the Start mode a menu option.

****UPDATED**** My car is a March 03/2019 build running 11/2019.71 which is the latest OTA upgrade. The "FESLastFunctionInterval" option only had "Nickt_aktiv" or "15min" as options. I tried "15min", while leaving default driving mode to "Adaptive" and then back to "Comfort" - neither worked, it seems default driving mode overrides anything else.
