Anyone driven both the X5 50e and the iX ?

Curious if anyone has driven both an X5 50e and an iX.

I currently have an iX. Vehicle has been in the service department awaiting repair for eight weeks of the 14 weeks I have owned it.

Ive asked for a refund/replacement and contemplating what I would like to own.

Contemplating purchasing an X5 again (I have already owned a 2019 X5 40i and a 2022 X5 40i).

You should probably look at the 50e posts here - also lots of tales of cars stuck at dealer with issues….

The issues seem to be limited to those built during specific weeks.

I have driven both. They are very different and very similar, which I know makes no sense. Similar in that <40 miles a day, you get full electric albeit with slightly less go in the X5 but have the security of the fuel. Different in how they deliver it, the aesthetics, and the cockpit experience. 50e feels normal, which we like, while the iX feels like it’s hitting you in the face that it’s a “new” spaceship EV.

In terms of driving dynamics, I personally like the X5 better but we come from sports cars, so that could be biased.

Thank you Thescout13.

My experience with X5s (and I have owned 2008, 2015, 2019, 2022) is they get better with each generation. They are versatile and they drive like a BMW.

My experience with the iX is that its a first generation and its still a work in progress. It doesn't drive like a BMW.

Im curious whether in normal daily suburban driving of 50km per day if the x5 50e uses both electric and petrol to run effectively or whether it will run happily on electric only. Is it painfully underpowered on electric only?

The Kw/Nm are healthy when I read the stats but I believe they are combined electric/ICE.

If that is the case.....then perhaps I should stick to a x5 40i which would be my third G05

I liked the 50e better, but I just got to use it for a week. It's been in the shop for three weeks. BMW has no parts to fix it, yet they are still producing it.

It’s definitely slower. I would say 0-30 is perfectly punchy in the X5, which is more than enough for quick movement at light. But getting all the way to 60 from a stop is like 8-9 seconds. So it will be noticeably slower if you are a light to light racer, but once your moving it’s not too noticeable. For example I’d make it a conscious choice to drive electric and know what I’m sacrificing but when I want to have fun, I press the button for hybrid and it comes completely alive
