Yep, its possible, I got a quote on my previous X5 G05.
The unit itself costs around $880, plus installation.
My new X5 G05 came with it as an option - its definitely not standard.

Thanks James

take a look at the customer specification guide attached - the wireless charger is listed as Standard on the xdrive25d then the xdrive40i should be inheriting the standard features according to this document if im not mistaken.

If you want my opinion, take it for what it's worth, I wouldn't go out of my way to install a wireless charging pad. Is it convenient and cable-free? Yes. But there's a few other posts on here with phones heating up. I was never a fan of wireless charging, as I feel it's gimmicky. With a case on, the phone heating up, and the battery running hot...eh not a fan in my opinion. The only real "nice" thing is throwing it on in a pinch.

I think you would have a different take on the wireless tray if BMW did screw up USB locations. Good luck fitting a phone in the center console with the USB C...the regular USB that's near the cupholders is great, but again...where can you really put the phone? on the wireless charging tray? ha I was always a bit disappointed with their placement of charging. Also, question to everyone out there...is there a cut out in the arm rest to run a cable outside and leave the flaps down? I pop open the passenger flap and run the cable from there and leave my phone on the passenger seat.

Probably not the answer you want, but just my $.02!

It's useless it doesn't charge the phone at best it prevents the battery from depleting. Save your money or buy an aftermarket solution.

I agree. It only prevents depleting of iPhone battery

My first 2018 G05 was a "lemon". It had issues from day 1, starting with a faulty catalytic converter that had a vibrating flap that made a loud annoying rattle, then countless ECU failures and problems. It was an early build (August 2018), so I put it down to that.
After putting up with it for 6-months, I insistent on a new/replacement from my dealer. I had to fight tooth and nail for it, including getting BMW Australia involved, and eventually I wore them down - and they arranged a changeover. I still had to pay $3k, but it was a brand new 2019 model and for my own piece of mind it was worth it.

The 2019 hasn't missed a beat, its been perfect - and came with wireless charging, which the 1st didn't have.

My s10 used to charge well, it only got slightly warm, but not hot. My current Galaxy Z flip charges the same, albeit a little slow...

Hi James,

I was looking into retrofit of wireless charger for a new X5 that doesn't come with it. Can you tell me where you got this quote. I was hoping this could be done, but haven't found anything about how to complete this.

Thanks,
Dave

The OEM wireless charger feature is nice. But it charges at such a slow speed.

A cord charger will definitely deliver more juice.

I removed my unit to determine whether it could be changed to a better performing one. Wireless charging and NFC are combined in one module. I posted a pic in the DIY section. You would need the wiring harness to connect it.

Here's a nice kit that is working beautifully for me. Fits very nicely in the intended space-

I got my daughter a new 330 and they deleted the wireless charging pad from the build. She really wanted it. I looked into retrofitting an OEM but I couldn't find the wiring harness to make the connection. Those who had an NFC pad could easily swap it out. In my case I just had an empty tray and put in an aftermarket one and kept quiet. So far so good. It works.

These are the pictures of the 330. It took about 15 mins.

The adapter plus right angle USB-A is too tall to close the lid. It fits easily if the cable is detached.

Chip Shortage to Blame

I took delivery of a 2022 M50i with premium enhanced package (Canada). No wireless charging and no credit offered. Why? Chip shortage. What else was missing?

No Homelink Mirror (No credit offered)
No heated/cooled cup holders

For some reason I don't have "Adaptive" setting for driver profile either.

You’ll find that the hot spot capability for the WiFi was also removed when the wireless charging came out. No advanced notice from BMW (I just took delivery of a X40i with the same issues).

Please do not do that. That charging pad is really useless.

Does anyone know an aftermarket pad that can be installed instead of factory one?

Agreed. I have a wireless pad in my 540. It hardly puts out any power…basically just keeps the battery level where it is. I just use a cable if I need some juice.

Not to mention, now that I moved to a iPhone Pro Max, it doesn't fit anyway.
