Hi guys, picked my car last month and noticed the m sport brake start to squeal during normal brakes this week. I found a video on YouTube, which is exactly the same problem. Normal brake has squeal, but no squeaking on hard brakes.

Can anyone help? It's very annoying! Many thanks!

Edited: I tried several hard stops from 40mph to 0. At the end of my drive the squeal disappeared. But not sure if the squeal will come back. Will try later when the brake is cold again.

Does it have to be the dealership where I purchased the car? Or any BMW dealerships?

Any BMW dealer, doesn't matter which one so pick your favorite. BMW honors their warranty at all their dealerships no matter where you bought it.

Welcome to the M sport brakes from hell. Had the same issue with my 335i. No way to fix them other then the change the brake pads... once they wear unevenly, and the rotor starts to wear, you will get this squel. Never had the issue with any other car

This is completely normal for high performance brakes. You'll notice the same noise, if not louder, with Carbon Ceramic brakes. Porsche did a nice explanation of this for their vehicles (though this easily applies to all high performance brakes, including those used in BMWs):

So sad. My car has only 700 miles so far, how can it starts to run unevenly. BTW, does the change of brake pad/ rotor due to noise covered under warranty? It should be right?

It should be covered under warranty if dealership confirm its a safety issue. According to a few, if its normal, it will be difficult to argue.

We havent experience any noise with our G05 with Msport brakes, but our 4 series without Msport brakes does have the noise. Brakes on it is practically new, so not sure if its only the Msport brakes.

If its normal, why doesnt it make the noise on most with Msport brakes? IMO, not normal on a car this new.

Is the noise coming from only one side? did you try cleaning your brakes to see if its helps?

Not sure. But when I rolls down the driver's side window, I can hear it clearly. Tried several hard stops yesterday at 40 mph. Then no more squeals at the end. But I am not sure if it will come back tonight when I drive it...

My 4 series without M-Sport brakes also makes the noise sometimes. It's not the case that every car with M-Sport brakes HAS to make the noise, but if it does (especially if the car is new), I wouldn't be alarmed. The squeaking noise is a natural side effect of the brakes, not an intended function of it. So it doesn't HAVE to make the noise, but it COULD make the noise. While some experience it, some may not. Depends on the brakes, the driver, weather, how hard you're braking, etc. If you take it to the dealer, I can almost guarantee they will advise it is operating as designed and there is nothing wrong with them.

Someone linked this in another thread about brake squeals.

In that thread, they suggested that proper brake bedding would reduce or eliminate brake squeaks and squeals.

I just ordered my 2020 X5 40i last Sunday, advisor strongly advised to remove the m-sport brake option. Other than looking cool he said they will squeak and produce a lot more dust than standard. Got virtually every other option ($78k msrp). Sorry this is an issue for you!

Surprising no squeaks yet after 2,467 miles and quieter than my M550i but lots of dust LOL.

Did find this video from BMW M

This. With any high performance brakes. The most important part (other than finding a safe stretch of road to do it) is not letting the car come to a complete stop between sessions while braking - this will indeed cause squealing down the road, so to speak. This process "burns in" and polishes the pads to the rotors so you don't have uneven or rough surfaces to brake against, causing squeal. A little noise is normal with high performance brakes - nature of the beast: large surface area, high pressure, quick stop.

I followed the instruction. Now there is no squeaking, but not sure what will happen later.

Remind me of Porsche.... the biggest reason I didn't go for cayenne coupe was always brake squeal during test drive. Sadly M50i has the same problem.

I notice mine with the m sport breaks on are noisy if they are not cleaned often. Once it’s been washed it’s fine after that

Emmm, but does washing frequently cause corrosion?

Try bedding in your brakes to see if that helps reduce the noise.
