Hi guys, picked my car last month and noticed the m sport brake start to squeal during normal brakes this week. I found a video on YouTube, which is exactly the same problem. Normal brake has squeal, but no squeaking on hard brakes.
Can anyone help? It's very annoying! Many thanks! Edited: I tried several hard stops from 40mph to 0. At the end of my drive the squeal disappeared. But not sure if the squeal will come back. Will try later when the brake is cold again. |

Welcome to the M sport brakes from hell. Had the same issue with my 335i. No way to fix them other then the change the brake pads... once they wear unevenly, and the rotor starts to wear, you will get this squel. Never had the issue with any other car

This is completely normal for high performance brakes. You'll notice the same noise, if not louder, with Carbon Ceramic brakes. Porsche did a nice explanation of this for their vehicles (though this easily applies to all high performance brakes, including those used in BMWs):

So sad. My car has only 700 miles so far, how can it starts to run unevenly. BTW, does the change of brake pad/ rotor due to noise covered under warranty? It should be right?

Not sure. But when I rolls down the driver's side window, I can hear it clearly. Tried several hard stops yesterday at 40 mph. Then no more squeals at the end. But I am not sure if it will come back tonight when I drive it...

Someone linked this in another thread about brake squeals.
In that thread, they suggested that proper brake bedding would reduce or eliminate brake squeaks and squeals. |

I just ordered my 2020 X5 40i last Sunday, advisor strongly advised to remove the m-sport brake option. Other than looking cool he said they will squeak and produce a lot more dust than standard. Got virtually every other option ($78k msrp). Sorry this is an issue for you!

Surprising no squeaks yet after 2,467 miles and quieter than my M550i but lots of dust LOL.
Did find this video from BMW M

This. With any high performance brakes. The most important part (other than finding a safe stretch of road to do it) is not letting the car come to a complete stop between sessions while braking - this will indeed cause squealing down the road, so to speak. This process "burns in" and polishes the pads to the rotors so you don't have uneven or rough surfaces to brake against, causing squeal. A little noise is normal with high performance brakes - nature of the beast: large surface area, high pressure, quick stop.

I followed the instruction. Now there is no squeaking, but not sure what will happen later.
