Plans for the 50i model in 2020?

As a prior 2015 X5 50I owner who made the mistake of going to an Audi Q7, I am ready to get out of my ease early (over miles and missing the "fun" of a bimmer) and come back to the new X5.

Does it seem the 2019 X5 50i is a bit of an anomaly -- 1-year model? Will they keep it for 2020 when the X5 M50i is released as well as the X5 M or replace it with the X5 M50i?

Other posts seem to think this is the case.

Should I go for it now or wait until 2020? My sense is with all the bugs and higher performance of the X5 M50i waiting may make sense, but the current X5 50i is plenty fast. Thoughts?

The current 50i is very fast and I used to have an also fast X3 M40i. You won't be disappointed with the 50i's power at all

If I remember correctly from what I read on the upcoming models, the 50i will only be for 2019. If I find the post/article I will link it.

Edit:

2020 G05 X5
- sDrive40i (B58TÜ, 335hp)
- xDrive45e (390hp)
- xDrive M50i (N63TÜ3, 530hp, replacing xDrive50i)

2019 50i M Sport is a monster. Currently on a cross country trip as I type this from my passenger seat of my 50i MSport. (Via BMW hotspot) Wife is driving. Solid 10 hours of driving yesterday. I laid waist of anything in the left lane. I averaged 89mph through SC. Jump from 80 to 120 is shockingly fast.

I just left a 2017 Q7 and love my M Sport 50i! You will not regret this change

You can blow away most of the normal car on the street easily. I’m happy with mine but you could wait for m50i if you want to

The 50i will be dropped. In the US the G05 lineup will be the 40i, 45e, M50i, and the X5M.

Keep in mind that anytime there is an engine update the previous model (BMW) tends to take a significant depreciation. Speaking from experience 3x. Of course this in a non-issue if one is leasing.

Or since this will be a limited run they will hold their value only time will tell

Other than a name change, any incremental improvement of the 2020 X5 M50i over the current 2019 X5 50i is going to be just that... incremental. If you're hoping for a 0.1sec increase in acceleration time or a few extra sporty options, then that's just silly. It's an SUV. It's too heavy. It's meant to haul people and stuff. Go get a sports car. However, if it's a V8 you want over a V6, then regardless of which model year you choose, you will love and enjoy the 50i! It's fast and fun and has a pretty decent sound too! I had a RRS SC which did sound much better. I enjoy my 50i and would get it over any V6 BMW or Audi any day.

I like jokes, but this would be a rarity for BMW to switch this fast. I think it's happened once before so we really don't know.

The newest iteration of the V8 (M50i) will provide technical advances that will go without a TU (technical update) for the next three to four years. 0-60 times have little to do with it.

N63B44M3 (50i) features improved thermal shielding for the crankcase and the cylinder head, and a new ignition system. In addition, N63B44T3 (M50i) uses higher pressure (5000psi) injectors, larger twin-scroll turbochargers, a redesigned intake manifold, and an upstream cooling radiator.

FYI, BMW does not produce a V6, never has and never will.

actually they do build some for internal testing only but never for production. I read an interesting article on this a while ago

.

It has happened a few times. The last that comes to mind was the 2006 N52B30 (naturally aspirated I6) 330i, all new vehicle and engine which was award Automobile car of the year that year. The following model year (2007) BMW introduced another new engine, the N54B30 (twin turbo I6) 335i. The 330i was discontinued.

One has never been placed in a production vehicle for the masses.

Correct but they have produced them for internal use only which I thought was cool.

New model year production (SOP) at Plant Spartanburg is typically in August.

South Carolina production for the new model year has always begun at the beginning of August.

G05 SOP (start of production) was actually 08/18.
