If it is by design, its pretty poor, given BMW really should know how to do a ruched leather interior....

Back in the day when ruched leather was fashionable, this is how BMW used to do a proper ruched leather interior

Ahhh, the good old E34. I had a 520i Touring with seats like this and it was the most comfortable car I've had

I'd look closer...when he leans forward you can see the same wrinkles we all have. And there are no wrinkles in the center section in the back anyway. So, yeah, same "WrinkleGate"!!!

I made that post weeks ago. I showed the wrinkled seat photos to my wife and she is not bothered at all by the wrinkles. The car is for her. We ordered Ivory Extended merino. We pick the car up week after next. I will us the wet towel and hair dryer trick if it’s a problem. Car seats are going back there anyway.

Just ordered my G05 yesterday and found this forum (via bimmerfest) when I got home. I wish I seen this thread before I left the dealer here in San Jose, I would have looked at all their G05s. I don't recall seeing any during our two test drives, but it could have been overlooked since we didn't spend much time in the back.

Anyway I read through most of these posts and don't think I saw any reference to the wrinkling appearing or getting worse after use. These all seem to be what was found at delivery.

So does anyone have experience that use is a cause/contributing factor?

Also, I don't think I've seen any mention or picts of the front seats having this problem. Yes, no?

To add my vote, this definitely looks like a quality problem, not by design. If it were by design all the seats would have a similar look from side to side, front to back, and from vehicle to vehicle.

I'm going to warn my CA that I will not take delivery of my G05 if I see any (Vernasca) wrinkling at all.

Incidentally, I was quoted 3 months (!) for delivery.

When I told her I'd seen other's claim a 4 week delivery, she said that was because the order must have closely matched an existing one that was in process (and could be redirected?) but my order was unique so that wasn't possible. I had no way to challenge her and it wouldn't have done any good regardless. My order isn't so unusual, but it is just what I want. If she's wrong and it comes earlier, then great.

When I ordered my E92 back in '08 it took 4 months, but it had to come from Germany, not Tennessee.

That's BS. Every vehicle is built to order whether it's a sold car or a dealer stock. It's probably an allocation issue. Some dealers get a lot more allocations and therefore their orders are moved through the system faster.

Buddy, look, your seats are gonna have wrinkles in back. Just don't order the X5 if you've already gotten this wound up about it. I'm just being honest. Save yourself the heartache.

I'd be curious to know what the build date is. BMW is aware of the issue and has even replaced a couple seats from what I've read here. It shouldn't be that hard to resolve this at the seat supplier.
