X5M Moonroof - wind noise

Hi Guys,

First time SUV guy here and picked up my 23 X5M Comp few months ago. I'm noticing wind (light howling noise) from the moon roof of the car. Is this something "normal" or would this be a fit and finish issue?

The noise is always at highway speed and def more noticeable now in the cold months. Don't think I heard it back in October when it was still warm out.

Edit: X6M (Like I said, new to this whole suv thing )

You can attempt a reset on your own with the interior switch to see if it sets itself properly.

Thanks, makes sense to see if a new seating will help after a reset.

Just updating for anyone experiencing this in the future. After few visits to the dealer:

1st visit: Changed the outer seal of the moon roof and it actually made the noise worse.
2nd visit: Found a 10mm gap in the inner seal and they changed it. No more wind noise.

That’s the issue I am having right now. The rubber seal needs to be replaced. See attached.

I got the same issue now, hearing wind noise from the moon roof, once I open the sun roof , it disappears. I will check with the dealer.

Only noise I hear from mine is the pop from going over large bumps on the road. Something BMW should have addressed…

I had the same issue when I purchased brand new (back in 2019) a X3 M40i, the doggone rubber seal had "shrunk" almost 1/2 inch. Was replaced by BMW dealer under warranty, of course.

Same issue here. This is from my 23 X5 M50 after about nine months. I try to avoid dealers as much as I can so I replaced it myself for $40. Pretty easy install that only took about 15 minutes. The replacement piece was actually a bit longer than what was needed so I had to cut it to fit correctly.

Is this the part number you ordered?

Here's the part that I ordered:

Part No.: 54-10-7-493-155
GASKET, GLASS COVER, FRONT

It was a few inches longer than needed, but the same exact gasket as the old one.

Hope this helps.

I ordered this part which shows replaces the part number above

Seal Glass Roof Front 548520 - BMW (54-10-5-B32-973)

Genuine BMW Seal Glass Roof Front 548520 - Part Number 54-10-5-B32-973
Replaces 54-10-7-493-155

The strange thing is that my car always had the small gap on the sunroof ever since it was brand new so makes you wonder if it was meant to be there to release any pressure build up or if it was part defect. I feel like most people posted that they had the same gap in that spot.

Just got the part in today and swapped mine out. simple install but takes alittle time to make sure its on securely. 15mins sounds about right.

The updated part was also a bit too long so i snipped maybe .25" off at the end with a regular pair of scissors.

I had noticed a small whistling sound after i installed my ski racks and now its completely gone. Worth the $42 bucks.

I've had my X5M since new and it never had and still doesn't have any gap anywhere along the sunroof seal.

Weird. I know my car had it since new because I noticed it when I was applying ceramic coating up there. All good now. The new trim not only fills in the gap 100% its also thicker compared to the old one which got flattened over time so the seal should be better regardless now.

I wonder if leaving the seal out in the sun so it shrinks and then install it afterwards would fix this problem.
