License plate screws

Does anyone happen to know the correct thread for the US license plate screws? Someone had previously mentioned it was M5x0.8 but I ordered some and they are not correct. It seems 0.8mm is too fine thread.

My 22 X5 and 23 X7 both came with rear brackets that were non-threaded. Just self tapping screws into plastic. BMW went cheap.

I replaced with this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Those are definitely M5x8mm and FYI the build quality seems great. Also, my 2014 F10 and 2012 F30 did have the threaded brackets (original) they are M5x8mm.

If you can pull one of the original screws off and take it to a hardware store they typically have a thread checker you can use.

surely you’re not waiting 3 months! a trip to the hardware store should address this

I bought brand new black slimline frames, etc....but in the back, I ended up using no plate cover and the -plastic black screws-. IMO, it actually looked the best, with the black screws blending in the shadowline trim and black emblems.
