2024 BMW X6 M Competition Build - Individual Color Chalk

disclaimer: posted this in the Pricing, Order, Tracking Forum but thought it would be better here.

Hello everyone,

I placed an order in mid-September and received an allocation in October. The vehicle was scheduled to be built in November, with delivery expected in December. My original specifications were as follows:

X6 M Competition
Frozen Pure Grey Metallic
Sakhir Orange/Black Full Merino Leather
Driving Assistance Package
Executive Package
21"/22" M Star-Spoke Black Wheels
M Compound Brakes with Red Calipers
Carbon Fiber Trim
Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System
Wheel Locks

After watching numerous videos and scanning this forum, as well as conducting some research, I grew increasingly uneasy about the Frozen Pure Grey Matte paint. The idea that I couldn't buff out scratches, among other things, was a deal-breaker for me. Besides, if I had chosen that route, I would have ended up applying Paint Protection Film (PPF) to the entire car, adding another $7-9K to the cost. My current vehicle has a ceramic coating which I am planning on getting applied to this vehicle and PPF on the full front, fenders and rocker panels. I was going to skip the PPF this time as I didn't see a huge benefit.

Then I stumbled upon this beautiful blue shade on YouTube(link below), which I instantly adored, but I couldn't identify the color. After consulting with my BMW advisor and making several inquiries, no one seemed to have a definitive answer. However, once I experimented with the BMW Individual visualizer, I fell in love with the Chalk Uni color. My current 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback is Nardo Grey, and Chalk seemed to belong to the same color family. Although I cherished my Nardo Grey, I was ready for a change, and the light grey, almost white appearance of Chalk, captivated me.

Consequently, I requested that my advisor change the order to this new color. He briefed me on the approval process and mentioned that choosing an Individual color would necessitate obtaining prior approval and likely result in being assigned to a later allocation slot. I consented and have now been waiting for over two weeks without any update. I’m wondering if any of you have experience with ordering an Individual color? From what I’ve read, the approval process usually takes about a week, but it can delay the build time. I’ve also gathered that experiences can vary depending on the expertise of your advisor. Like anyone would be, I’m very excited about ordering a new car and just seeking insights from anyone with recent experience ordering an Individual color. Thanks in advance!

Naw I don't think so. It has a slight hint of teal in the video and that Avus is a deeper blue. Thanks though!

Just call your dealer 2-3 times a day before lunch and then 2-3 times after for updates. It works.

Here’s some more unsolited internet stranger advice: if you’re gonna do an individual color, I’d want to pick one that hasn’t been on the same car, or any other car for that matter maybe. Having the only one is special. Maybe do the standard gloss style and then drop the big bucks on a stealth/matte PPF film.

On the other hand, if you get an off the shelf color, it should be a lot easy enough for touch up or repairs if the unthinkable happens.

I split the difference and did matte ppf over tanzanite. I think that’s offered as a frozen color now too. Haha.

Good luck, it’s gonna be a cool as hell car regardless.

I appreciate the your response. I haven't seen any X5s with Chalk. I've seen quite a few M4s though. I really like the color. I do like the look of the matte ppf over certain colors. Creates a really cool effect.

Chalk is def cool. A frozen or ppf stealth version of that would be real trick too.

Yea Brandt might be on to something. I didn't want to PPF the entire car because of cost but now you got me thinking.

The X6 in the YT clip looks like it’s wrapped in vinyl the way it’s picking up colour as the guy backs out. The resolution isn’t great though so hard to be sure, but that might not be paint.

I was looking at my rig last night under bright LED shop lights. There’s some hints of glossy reflections at certain angles. Looks cool, but I’m not sure if a real frozen paint job will do that, mine is just ppf.

I have an update regarding my order. My advisor informed me that, two days after releasing my order, the individual color was approved. This came after receiving incorrect information from his manager, who had initially stated there was a 99% chance of non-approval at order status 112. Consequently, I was advised to wait for a new allocation for the color approval. Further complicating matters, upon releasing my order, the manager removed the Executive Package and the Bowers and Wilkins Sound System, not wanting a 'highly spec'd' vehicle on the lot. This has been extremely frustrating.

Now, the order is at status 102, and I've been told the package can't be reinstated due to it being an individual order. I told the advisor that based on my research, modifications are possible but would require intervention from BMW North America (BMWNA), especially given that this error originated from the dealership.

My advisor has escalated this to the General Manager, who has contacted BMWNA to resolve the issue. The frustration is immense, more so because if this isn't rectified, and considering the dealership hasn't received any allocations for November yet, I might not receive my vehicle until March or April and there will now be another Chalk X6 M Competition riding around Houston.

Would anyone be able to provide a contact at BMWNA for further assistance? Thanks in advance.

Man I'm sorry to hear your trouble. I don't know if you want to venture a little, but i purchased my X5MC from BMW of South Austin before relocating to Houston.

My service guy Christoph got me my allocation within a 3 days and the car was delivered in about 45 days. Mine wasn't an individual order but if you're having trouble its an alternative option.

hope everything gets resolved. you can PM me if you want their info.

Update #3

After minimal progress through phone and text conversations with my advisor, I opted to visit the dealership in person yesterday to discuss the matter with my advisor and his manager. The manager expressed regret for the misunderstanding, explaining that he was not aware that I wanted to proceed with the order update. He had assumed I was content to wait for a new allocation after not hearing anything back from the BMWNA rep on his first attempt. His apologies were sincere, and he committed to doing everything in power to try and fix the issue. This morning, my advisor contacted me with the news that the correct options were added back to my vehicle. So, in summary making changes at status code 102 is possible but requires a dealership that wants to help you and some assertiveness. Below is a list of my updated spec:

X6 M Competition
Individual Color Chalk
Sakhir Orange/Black Full Merino Leather
Driving Assistance Package
Executive Package
21"/22" M Star-Spoke Black Wheels
M Compound Brakes with Red Calipers
Carbon Fiber Trim
Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System
Wheel Locks

Now the real waiting begins!

I found an X5 M on YouTube wrapped in Chalk, with the Sakhir Orange/Black Full Merino Leather interior. Really liking the gloss look. I'm thinking of skipping the stealth PPF and just going for PPF in the high-impact areas, along with a ceramic coating. Was initially considering passing on the PPF this time, but now I'm having second thoughts.

It’ll be legit either way for sure.

Man, I didn’t realize how tough allocations can be. When we ordered the first X5M, we got it in 19 days, but that was January 2021 and it was a tiny small town Texas dealership that was prob relieved they were able to sell their alocation.

Fast forward to early 2023 and trying to replace it with the same build after a hit and run, nope. We got lucky and the dealer found one already built and did a trade for it.
