Launch control - how?

How do I get launch control to work?

Cars now on 1400 miles.

The steps I'm following are:
Put car in sport mode
Turn off traction control
Move gear shit to the right
Hard push on brake pedal
Floor the accelerator and wait for the flags.

I can't get it to work. Am I doing something wrong?

Is the car warmed up? Usually takes 10 min before you can use launch control. Is the gas paddle all the way down? Is the gear selector in S? It should work if everything is set right.

best way to do it imo:

have about 1/4 tank of 93 octane (preferred)

turn DSC off by holding the traction control button for a few seconds until idrive days 'DSC off'

place the car in sport+

place gear shift in S by moving it to the left (us models)

turn 'auto hold' off

firmly hold the break while flooring the gas until you hit ~3,000rpm

have fun because this will make you smile

You have to drive 6 miles before it enables on US models. Also it only works in "traction" mode, so a short press of the traction control button. If you hold the button and enable "DSC OFF", it won't work. Gear indicator on dash also needs to show S1.

On this note, yes, launch control will not work with Traction fully off. Although in my testing, and AndroidRobot may be able to affirm, having it fully off without launch control and instead break boosting yields better results.

I agree completely. It's still fun to see the flag occasionally though.

I'm sorry but I have to blame you for playing tricks on my mind, especially after reading the next post -> ... "Is the gear selector in S? It should...". You had me rolling

No offense to the OP ... I've never tried launch control myself so this thread is good.

You need to push the accelerator pedal past the kickdown resistance point. I've had the same issues until I figured that out. Flag pops up immediately once you push the accelerator hard enough.

Thanks for all the advice.

I was writing in annoyance last night, meant to write, flick the gear selector to the left in sport mode.

Reading through this would suggest I wasn't kicking down on the accelerator hard enough and I had turned the DCS all the way off.

So will try short press on traction control button, put car in sport mode, flick gear selector to the LEFT.

Hard press on brakes

Push down on accelerator past kick down

It launches better per my many tests with DSC off vs true launch control which is TSC off.

Accelerator pedal past kick down is the key. It took me a while to figure out that this is why launch control wasn't working for me.
