So I get the same message that the update which I downloaded many weeks ago is about to expire, AGAIN. This is the third time this has happened. Come on BMW, surely you can do better. I have tried everything, car outside, on a battery tender, locked/ unlocked, etc. I never get a message that it is ready to install. And yes My BMW app is up to date.

I had exact same problem. Expired twice and at third attempts of waiting for installation, my idrive start experiencing 'black screen for 15 seconds' issues at drive. Had to let dealer to update at my service of other issues. They updated to 2023.07 but bimmerlink code of auto stop and start is not working anymore because bimmer locked some ECU functions. That sucks. So you may not want to update your software unless you know you are getting out of it.

This can either be an issue or a blessing. True, updates have a finite life and will expire if not completed, I think it's about three months. I finally got an update pending notice after having the car more than a year but I knew it would wipe out my coding and then not allow me to code ASS off so I intentionally did not install it. It just expired and disappeared the other day and I was glad to see it go as I was a bit nervous that I would have accidentally invoked it cause it was in my face on the app and in the car.
However, for those who really want it and tried installing it and never succeeded and then it expired, I'd make an appt at the dealer with that complaint.

You have a 2020 X5 which has the auto start/stop button. Are you saying it no longer works after the update?

The update does not change the function of the button.

The button still works. BimmerLink does not work anymore. I used to code it permanently off so that I don’t have to press the button every time I get into my car.
