Periodic Login Required?

When I started my X5 this afternoon, I was greeted with a message that some services were unavailable and to scan a QR code to log in. My profile was already loaded, so I don't know what the purpose of the log in was. There was another message that stated that a navigation update was automatically downloaded.

Is it necessary to log in periodically like I have to do on my computer every once in a while?

It sounds like BMW it trying to upload your X5’s software via your phone.
I just went through this with my X3. Same prompt.

That's usually the prompt for authentication although the driver's profile is already connected. Somewhat akin to MFA to prove you are authorized to upload the OTA from the cellphone.
