First time BMW owner - MY25 order

Hi Everyone - I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on this forum for posting up information on the ordering process.

I'm a first-time buyer and I was able to negotiate what I consider a good deal on my MY25 X5 xDrive40i. It was a fairly easy process for me at the dealership I chose. Based on feedback on here I saw folks were getting 6.25% and that invoice seems to be ~7%. I am a software sales engineer in the daytime so I used those skills to research BMW sales. FYI X5 sales are down in Q1 by 13.8% when compared to the same quarter last year. Also, X5 sales (ICE) sales (in CY2023) were the lowest they have been since 2017 (excluding 2021 COVID).

All that is to say that I brought that up and the sales mgr was quick to ask what I wanted, I said 8%, he countered with 7% and we shook on it. They altered an allocation they already had in pipeline and my new X5 is scheduled (using the chrome hack) to be completed on 4/27. I'm very excited

Now that I have that negotiation out of the way i'm moving on to extended warranty and extended maintenance plans. Anybody have guidance on what those typically cost and what you can actually get them for?

Most folks would tell you "No" to extended warranties. There are a few threads on it.

Not sure why you want to buy the extended warranty unless you plan to keep the car for a long time. But you might as well wait until the end of BMW warranty period to shop for extended warranties.

Yeah, i've heard it all when it comes to extended warranties. I look at it as buying peace of mind. I hope I lose money on it, but, if there is a failure it will pay for itself. We typically keep cars for 7 years before upgrading. That seems uncommon for BMW owners.

You can still wait to buy an extended warranty from BMW right before your current warranty expires if your mind changes about keeping the car.

But if you want to lock in pricing, then do a search on Bimmerpost as a few people have gotten good quotes from various dealers. I saw this previously.

Congrats on your order. I would recommend saying NO to all at this time. You can buy the Vehicle Service Contract (BMW's name for the extended warranty) at any time prior to the new vehicle warranty expiring. While the price is lower the earlier you buy it, given various levels, it may still be less expensive to wait given cost of money, return, etc.

While I would not get one, I shopped around a few years ago for pricing and these three were the lowest and they continue to offer great pricing. You may want to check on pricing to give you an idea of the cost. You will have to wait at least until you have your VIN.

mikey6480 Just say NO! Rarely do these end up providing value.
