Hi all. I'm ordering the 2024 X5 xDrive50e. And for $650, I could add the "Anthracite Alcantara Headliner." It says it adds a "sporty" look to the interior. Does anyone have experience with this? Would it help us complete the luxury feel/look? (I also read on the forum that they do not put this on the moonroof shade anymore?)

No ownership experience.
I have sat in a few in the showrooms.
I would check the box, but I would check almost all the boxes.

It adds an extra luxury touch, and at this price point, $650 for a more premium luxurious look and feel is a no brainer to me.

I’m sticking with a buyers remorse theme. Spend 80k and wish you had a feature or spend 10/month and say hey this wasn’t worth that 10 bucks!! I’d much rather be in camp 2.

The alcantara headliner is definitely a more luxurious look/feel than the standard, and yes, the material on the sunroof shade is a different material with some small perforation.

Black, in general, is a nice color for the headliner. If you're not on a budget, it's nice to have. I don't know about 'sporty' but looks/feels nice.

IMO, a waste of money for an SUV that's wrapped in leather. Two of my cars had it the M6 and GT3, and it only fits the style of the GT3 bc most of the interior is alcantara.

As it's on the ceiling, you won't touch it and rarely will notice it as it's black

I’m have it in one of my bmws too. It is on ceiling, A/B/C pillars. Personal, i won’t spend money on it. No one except you will notice it. The black turned purplish after sometime. But this is your car, you have to like it.

Get it for sure. I bought mine off the lot so I’m not sure I would have selected it myself, but I like it so much more than I thought I would. Will get it again if available.

Thanks for everyone’s reply! However now I have some real confusion. According to the pricing chart for the 2024 X5, “anthracite headliner” comes standard on all models? What does that mean? Then what is this Anthracite Alcantara option for?

If it the headliner is anthracite as standard, then you don't need to get the Alcantara option as it looks almost the same unless you touch it.

Have you sat in a car with the alcantara headliner? I thought I wanted it till I sat in a car with it and saw everyones finger lines from touching it. Drove me nuts. Like one of the carpets in your house that shows every foot mark and vacuum marks. My headliner is the standard black (anthracite) and looks great. To each their own but if you have not seen both in person, you should go do so and I think then you will know which you prefer.

Note that the sunshade for the sunroof is unchanged so it’s just the outside edge. This changed a few years ago.

Not sure about x5s, but with other models, it used to be that the headliners were black (anthracite) only when the m sport package was selected. (That's just coloration, not making any reference to upgraded material.) For the x5s and a few other models, you could get the black headliner in an upgraded material, alcantara. The alcantara is also black. It sounds like now, all models --m sport or sport (f/k/a xline) get black headliners and if you want, you can upgrade from base fabric to alcantara.

I was a little hesitant to add it to my build as it seemed kind of frivolous. Well, I guess it actually is frivolous, but isn't most of the rationale behind buying a luxury car?

Now that I have it, I would never want to do without it. It really looks great in person and was one of the most standout elements I noticed when I took delivery. I'm absolutely delighted with the impact it has, and I notice it quite often. In my book, well worth the cost.

I would argue that merino leather, leather dash, and alcantera headliner make the X5 feel even more luxury. I wouldn’t hesitate on any of the above mentioned options. Here’s our M50i interior.

If you are asking, you want it and should get it. Many people start with a budget of 65K, spec out a car of 85K and then regret they did not spend the 5K that would have made their lives better…my advice (serious). There are two types of people - those who strictly stick to a budget and those who are more liberal with a budget (more of a guidance). If you are borrowing and think in terms of $/ month, then you will surely have buyers remorse unless you get everything you could have added and borrowed at $/month…

So depending on the type of person you are, this is a must have or one you can pass easily. It is best to check all the boxes unless you strictly follow a budget. If you don’t check the boxes here, you’ll just end up spending it somewhere else.
