I had a 2014 4S for a week, a year back or so. Back then I was driving my A6. This one had the 18-way seats, sports exhaust, and Bose-system so I it pretty much ticked all my boxes. Was really refined; probably as refined as the W222 S-Class and Model S. And I loved the steering and pedal feel. But yeah, for my current situation, I don't think it would be as practical.

That there are only a handful of cars that I'd pay sticker for, the 911 is one of them.

The thing with me is, I really like getting good value for my money. I've been blessed to have experienced both the bad and good sides of life. I've never really looked at things for the flash, more so for the workmanship, history, and usability. If I pay $50,000 for a car, I expect it to feel like $50,000. Paying above $40,000 for a 4-banger makes me cringe. This might just be my old man mindset, but that does not seem justifiable in anyway to me.

Like with watches, I would never spend my money on an AP, Hublot, Tag, Cartier. I would spend on a Rolex or Patek. I appreciate the later than the former.

Did you trade the M for a 911?

I wish I could DD an M car. I just drive too much. 22-25k miles a year is the deal breaker. So I'll always have to have one semi boring car. I think a 335/435 would fit that bill.

Dude! Meant to tell you. I'm actually getting transferred to my local office, not even 7 miles from my house (working under a derivative management as the regions are being consolidated and the tasks are getting redistributed)!

So, the M will be leased without a problem.

Aatish - to your watch comment/analogy....if you buy a Tag at a steep discount and price point, does this not create value? A $30.00 Ironman Timex can tell me the same time/date a $15k Rolex will...And, even a broke watch is right 2 times a day Then again - I do not buy watches for resale value, however you may actively buy/sell watches.

I do agree with your workmanship comment - and I apply this to everything I do in life. From tools, to furniture, to home purchases, etc. This is why I build a fence, rather than pay someone to fence my property.

On the other side - I am also at a point in life where it is more financially sound to pay someone to do certain maintenance items around the house as opposed to using what little free time I have....

No, had it during for 1 year.

I also had this feeling about putting too many miles on the M. But i really don't see the point in having an M3 and a 335. I contemplated getting an all electric Ford Focus at one point. After really running the numbers and thinking about it for a month or so i realized two things. 1) The lease cost of a E-Focus costs about the same as my fuel costs for the M. 2) The difference in resale value was not nearly enough to justify spending the same amount of money each month to drive and electric ford focus for 60% of my mileage.

It basically came down to relegating myself to driving an E-focus hoping that the resale on the M was going to increase by $5k. Which it would not. Cars are meant to be driven. Great cars provide great returns in the form of driving enjoyment, well worth it from my point of view.

Honestly, I don't track everyday, I drive and put miles. New M3/4 pricing, imo is atrocious. Yes, your getting a high performance vehicle, but it's not as practical or worth the extra $ imo.

That said, neither is a new 335 and actually any car in its category. I got mine for a steal, so I'm pretty happy. I would not pay sticker for my car.

Drove a new 911 for a week. Loved it.
My next car will be a 911 S, always loved the flat 6.

Well played.

I don't buy and sell watches, but I do keep track of value. Don't like taking too big of a hit. Thing is, buying a watch is very much like buying a car. There is a lot of fluff with pricing. One just needs the time to trim said fluff .

I like doing things on my own, and I'm young enough to justify it. That said, I would trust myself with doing shit that may affect others.

I had a regular Jetta before the GLI. It was my "sensible car decision" at the time. Most boring two years of my life. Never again.

If I were to drive an M2/M4 daily, my fuel consumption is going to double compared to what it is now. Plus, at 22-25k miles per year, depreciation is a bitch. I honestly think I just need to bite the bullet and move closer to work.
