Try raising or lowering the drivers seat.

The seat belt doesn't have an adjustable height like many cars do. Like James_G0530d said, you will have to try and find a different seat position that relieves the issue. It could be raising the seat or adjusting the tilt angle of the seat back or a combo of the two. I know it seems a bit strange that some of the most common and basic features low end cars have, BMW's don't. It is what it is.

Personally, I have found that when I adjust a seat to solve a problem, its initially uncomfortable...well, maybe a better expression would be that it feels strange or abnormal. However, if it solved the issue, I drive with it that way for a while and then find it's comfort comes back as I adjust to the new position.

Its sorta like moving your side view mirrors out such that you cannot sit in your normal seat position and see the side of your own car when looking through them. Its at first a bit strange and you have the desire to move them back but if you just wait a bit, the new position becomes the norm and your side view has improved.

I'm not saying you will ever be comfortable, just trying to help. Which seats did you buy?

I hear ya and its those sort of simple and expected features we don't look for before buying the car. It was years before BMW started recognizing Americans wanted cup holders and the first few would break if you dared to use them Well, I hope you can find comfort and enjoy the car.

Complete opposite problem for me. I'm 6"5 and it's too low. Stupid design decision.

One more grief I have with the seatbelts. There is too little space between the seat and side panel, that when the seat belt is disengaged, it just rubs to the side and/or to the seat when it goes to the parking (for the lack of a better term) state.

Does your seatbelts in the driver and passenger seats in the front automatically tighten when you take off? While waiting for new X5 I got used to this in a 5 series loander and I kind of liked that. In my X5 it does not automatically tighten up. Is there a setting for this?

I think that is an option you can buy (some kind of a safety package). I don't have that either.

Yes, it does automatically for me. I think when it gets to a certain speed, it just tightens up, a little too snug.

its like after 3-5mph is when I get the "BMW seatbelt hug". But after its done, it can get looser by just moving forward in your seat. I dont think its to restrain you so much as a safety test to make sure the tensioner is working properly.

One of the courses at the PCD center is to do hard braking. Suffice it to say, the tensioners work really really well in an emergency.
