We have sh!t roads here too, but I always prefer a stiffer/tighter ride with the fattest steamroller rubber! Learn to avoid the craters. I'm a bit disappointed they aren't offering 325/30 rears...

I'll bet it is unlikely to be different than the 50i m suspension. Swapping the engine and trim pieces is one thing, but developing a new suspension setup from the 50i to M50i in such a short time span doesn't seem like a rationale expenditure for them to have made. Additionally, it looks like the M50i can be fitted with both air suspension and DHP which should both allow for a more sporty and comfortable ride. I think an M50i with DHP will handle extremely well while retaining comfort.

It’s different just by the way they mentioned that it has been “gone over”. The X3 M40i had the same description listed when it was introduced. CarBlog also reports these models are a addition to the line up. ”These new M50i variants of the X5 and X7 both seem like excellent additions to their respective model lineups, but there is a downside. The V8-powered X5 50i and X7 50i were already rather expensive at $75,750 and $92,600 respectively, but these new M50i variants start at $82,150 for the X5 and $99,600 for the X7. With a $995 destination charge, the X7 M50i will cost well over $100,000 before even factoring in options. If you believe this performance upgrade is worth the $7,000 price premium, you'll be happy to know production is set to begin on August 2019 at BMW's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.” Last edited by MystroX5; 05-24-2019 at 07:19 AM.. |

Or does the current 50i already have the "gone over" treatment? That is unclear to me. The article doesn't state that there are differences between the current 50i and M50i, so there may not be.

What I see is a sportier look a vented rear bumper in black lots of the M badges and more horse power. Nothing wrong with it but I have to sort of chuckle with a X7 M. A limo on steroids. If I wanted a sport I would stick with the crossover size. There is power to spare in the 50i and we have a 505 HP sedan and I think that is were the M belongs not on a bigger SUV (SAV). It may just be me but we looked at the 505 hp in the crossover version of our current brand. Plenty of power and sport but it was not what we were looking for. I actually think it is too big to be an M. Tighter steering would be nice but I can live with what we have. I can jump over to the performance saloon when I feel like I need the giggles. The X5 50i I wouldn't pay for more power in this size or sport for that matter. We actually got this because we did want a cruiser with some personality. I will be fascinated to see how my X7M's they sell. Just seem like the buyers will be more X7 40's or 50i people for either more kids or people. I don't have buyers remorse over missing that one. We knew it was coming and we were not interested otherwise we would have waited.
One thing that I do think will be cool is the exhaust tips are exposed. If they don't put some nice caps on those it will be a shame because it will cheapen them or leave it to the owner to customize. The side vents are supposedly no longer fake (I guess we suffered so that the M would have a place to blow off steam). If it is truly 600 hp that is a lot and the tuning and all will justify the price point of $8k more. The 40 to 50 was a 15k jump so 8k with that power boost sounds reasonable if that is what you are looking for. I shall pass in good faith and live through all the adventures of those that take the plunge.

I think the m50 is great. After 6 month with 50 m sport i can see a bit more power and even better suspension tune. Plus limited slip will not hurt
The full m x5 would be an overkill for me for the street. So my next lease will most likely be m50 |
