X5 50i
Carbon Black or Mineral White, or maybe Phytonic Blue again?? Tartufo Extended Merino Leather M Sport Pack Dynamic Handling Pack 22" 742M Premium Pack Laser Lights Heated Armrests/Steering Wheel (only bc of the heated wheel--it is the wife's car after all!) Allocations are going to be slow to trickle in out my way. Probably would want to order around Nov/Dec anyway for end of the year incentives. Problem is the value of my X3 M40i is just going to depreciate with each passing month. BTW, the most I was offered for my M40i was $54k, with my state's trade in tax credit, that equals to $57240, a few hundred less than what I bought it new!!

I tried new, but dealers are playing hardball bc the F85 has ended production. F95 is still a ways out

How about this 2018 Donnington Gray over Individual Criollo Brown Merino Leather? 3K miles, located in NY. Not CPO but it's so new I don't think it's even eligible yet? http://cpo.bmwusa.com/used/2018-BMW-...3227?zip=98028 I also see a 2017 Mineral White over Aragon Brown in NC, 13K miles - you see that one? |

2018 X5M Black Sapphire Metallic over full Aragon Brown Merino Leather!! It came optioned with the 21" 612M in black, but I'm not really a fan of black wheels, so I opted to make those my winter setup, and I ordered an additional set of 21" 612M in silver. As always, I asked the dealer not to touch the paint or interior. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time last night to do my own full detail, so it was only a quick wash for now.

According to cars.com, there's some 200+ available, but for us, we had nonnegotiables, like BSM or CB with full Aragon and executive pack, so that greatly reduced those available. Production ended in June. Mine was produced 6/20/18.

I have actually considered it. Just because I am in the market now. I yesterday drove a 2018 X5M and loved it & am a real car/driving enthusiast & have owned many BMW's.
Have wondered with the 2019 X5 50i - optioned with DHP/MSport/22" wheels - how close to that X5M in terms of overall sound/drive I'm going to get. That combo gives you a lot of suspension goodies, roll control, active steering, MPerf exhaust, the MPerf brakes - It's got a fair bit of enthusiast stuff going for it. I realize it's not the "real M" but I do wonder how close it is. I was quoted with all those options $84k on a $90k MSRP which included quite a few options not available on X5M. (Factory hitch, ACC, etc) As to how close a 2019 50i with all those options would be to the M50i, I would bet the primary difference btw the two will be the ±60hp - which tuning could very easily make up for, & I'd bet (tuning) accounts for probably at least some of the gains for the M50i in the first place. But ultimately - I really don't know - hence my trepidation.. your thoughts? thanks Last edited by Old-School; 08-18-2018 at 10:18 AM.. |

If you loved the F15 X5M, I would jump on that now (obviously, bc that's what I did lol). There are great deals to be had! After a couple of years with the X5M, then you can better decide if the M50i is worth the change. I imagine the M50i with DHP, ZMP, 22" is going to be very close in everyday driving compared to the outgoing X5M. Probably better fuel economy too (my wife is already complaining!). At least this is our plan. But then again, if the X3M (albeit smaller) comes with better exterior colors, full leather interior, and a more aggressive ext/stance, that may work even better for us!

I ordered it because it is our family car and waiting 10 months or more was not an option.

Been thinking about this and if BMW really replaces the 50i with the M50i in one year and uses the fully tuned N63 from the 8 series (despite its statement that the 50i has a new N63 that's been "fundamentally upgraded from crankcase to engine management") without material price increase, I feel like they should offer people who got the 2019 50i a complimentary MPPK-type upgrade to at least make up some of the power difference. Never going to happen but that would be the right thing to do.

One interesting thing about the launch 50i version of the V8 is that the torque comes on at 1500 RPM (vs. current gen of 2000, and M550i at 1800). That will be helpful for the X5 and make it even sportier off the line. Will be interesting to see what the torque curve on the M50i looks like.

It's the silliest thing for BMW to delay the release of an M50i X5...wouldn't they just use the existing engine from the M550i? this move doesn't make any sense to me..

There is a lot more to it than just bolting in engine X or engine Y on the assembly line.
Every distinct model and engine combo needs to be tested and certified by lots of different government agencies and regulators. Crash tested. Emissions testing and certification. Fuel economy, etc. And all that is after BMW engineers need to match the engine software to the all the other software that is relevant... DSC, Traction Control, Launch Control, etc. The normal life of the previous model was shortened in order to jive up with all the other models, so it gave them less time to do all the normal development. And when all this stuff is going on for all the different models, they probably were in a situation where they realized they just couldn't get it all done without delaying the whole G05 line up another year. This is just a guess, but if they could have got it done, I'm sure they would have.
