I'm coming from a 35i and wanted the upgrade. I need a third row so this is out of the question for me. To top it off, my wife brought the car in for servicing and our CA spilled th beans on the 50i and she nix'd before I could even bring it up. She drives it 50% of the time.

I'll have to live through you guys. Maybe a test drive will change her mind.

I am in the same boat ...

Pros of ordering now ...

Know the price
Have it for 4+ mos in advance of 2020
Horsepower is enough
Ride likely to be less harsh than a M50i
Established engine

Cons ...
70 more horsepower
2020 model
New-ish engine
Unknown price ... over 100K?

Others?

If it's over $100K, they have a problem. That's X5 M territory.

My guess is that it will be about $80K - the price of the current 50i plus the cost of the M-Package and M-Brakes.

Price points are much higher now. It will easily be over $100k. I don’t think I have seen a base 50i for $80k. A nicely equipped 50i M-Sport is $95-$100k. Most of us stickered at $100k and were not completely loaded with every option like rear entertainment or NV.

My guess is a full X5M loaded up will be in the $125k range. That’s still slightly lower than the closest competitor.

I would be very surprised if there are any changes to the suspension compared to the current X5 50i M Sport.

Europe already has the M50d and it doesn’t have any different suspension setups compared to the current X5 50i M Sport.

IMO,the only change will be the updated V8 with a different exhaust. There really isn’t anything all that special about the new M Performance Models compared to an M Sport.Non of these models have anything in common with a real M car.Its all about marketing.

My guess is that there will be a minimal price increase compared to the current X5 50i M Sport.

The G05 50i build I keep flirting with is $93k...so I am estimating $105kish range with the M50i similar options/packages. Big potential con is negotiating power. one of my dealers already told me there wont' be much negotiating with the M50i...thankfully I have alot of dealer choices.

Yup. Then the real world performance gains versus what additional you are going to pay. I personally wouldn’t pay $10k+ more for .10 of a second difference 0-60mph at this level of performance.

Oh, fully loaded, it will be +100K. I thought SwedeJohanson was referring to the BASE price...

Right now, a fully loaded one is about $105K and that could be closer to $110K on the M50i. Part of that increase will also be the result of features that might become available for MY21.

Sky lounge might be a option but even that is looking like a X7 exclusive option for the USA. Full leather will probably be a option. At this point I would be happy if everything we have now actually works like cornering lights, phone digital key, etc..

I would tell you the same if I would be your dealer. I'd rather make a sale now than potentially no sale for MY21. There is no reason why the deals for the M50i should be any different.

And IMO, an increase of $12K for an equally equipped M50i over a 50i is a bit of a stretch...

The M50i we saw in the spy-shots has the full-leather option. Although calling it "full" is not quite accurate. The lower door sections still aren't leather-covered like on the X7.

Anyone think a X7M will come to be? Perhaps like the M760i.

All I heard so far is that they are still having some plans for that somewhere in a drawer. Or in other words, as crazy as the idea sounds, it's not completely off the table.

You're killing me...lol I am fighting the urge to go and order now but my sweet sounding F15 keeps me from doing that...hoping it's announced soon or some real info.

It's March already so it won't be that long before we get some facts.

My current Audi Q7-lease ends in about 11 months and without any detailed info on the upcoming X5/X7 M50i, I simply can't make a firm decision today what to get. Heck, I can't even rule out the Hybrid...IF we will get that in time which, again, I do not know yet for sure.

So for me, I need to see all the cards on the table (MY20) before I can make a firm decision and even if I'd be in the market today and had the opportunity to wait for MY20, I'd do so. Bugs will be worked out (more) and the upgraded V8 and potentially new features on the X5 which are missing today (full leather, alcantara headliner etc.) would be the main reasons.

Funny, I am also looking to move on from a Q7. I had 2 X5s, made the mistake of going to an Audi and now looking to come back into the fold.

I am leaning to order this month or next -- 70 extra horsepower is nice but I am not sure about how much I will really use it in-and-around the Washington, DC area (my sense is the power bands will be similar up through 40-60 mph).

Thanks for all the insights!

Think of it like pounding in a finishing nail with either a 20lbs or 22lbs hammer. Either will get the job done and both are over kill.

Here's the bottom line with the m50i. It will be maybe $800 more than the current 50i if you compare options to options. Further, dealers won't be price gouging. Deals will be the same as the 50i. It is not a limited or special edition car. It is simply the new x5 V8 non-m model. It will have no more or less demand than the 50i. Need further proof? Look at every single other mXX model in the BMW lineup.
