I'm actually not a fan of it in this comparison. Not sure whether it's the exterior color, but doesn't do it any favors IMO.

As rendered, looks like an aftermarket fail.

Blackout treatment on the grill needs to be carried across all other trim pieces (and wheels), for it to look coherent.

IMHO.

Any thoughts on the difficulty to make this modification vs F15 given the active shutters on the G05?

One of the first things I'll be doing... blacking out the grills. Only question is whether to wrap it, paint it, or wait for the inevitable after market blacked out grills?

I've DIY'ed it for my other cars, but with the G05 being brand new I'm not sure if people other than dealership technicians have access to instructions on how to remove the kidney grills. Hence, maybe wrapping it is a way to go?

From the production clip, it looks like the grill is just snap on. The problem lies in whether you need to remove the front bumper or not. The car in the clip had no front bumper.

I think the grill is separate from the shutters. As in, the grill snaps on over the shutters. At least that's what I've gathered from the pics and vids available so far.

Agreed with all here. Yes, it needs to be blacked out. Yes, the other trim needs that also, to match.

I'm getting ready to order a 2019 (BSM or AW, can't decide) and the only question I asked my dealer is if the factory can black out the front grille on the M sport trim. No dice.

I would imagine IND will eventually offer a custom painted grill.

I don’t get that either. The pic I posted above was a test model taken in Spartanburg. Then they don’t offer that combo. I’m hoping they at least have the parts available soon because I’d like to have mine done like the above when I pick it up at the dealer. We’ll see, I guess.

Yeah, that’s what it looks like in that pic above. This totally different than before. We didn’t have shutters before this, just open air slats which fit into the surround. Looks like the shutters will already be black, but the slats are now part of the surround. That’s a problem for what I want.

All the G Chassis kidney grills are very easy to take off.
The main holding clips are visible.

But, regardless, there will be someone somewhere asking for the DIY.

It has been asked multiple times on G30 section.

I am going the other way. I will get the full
M50d trim and grill pieces to replace the satin black ones on the 40i m sport. With so much white and silver and in all lights and wheels that looks better to me especially in a dark car.

I never liked black wheels. Too jdm for me.

One idea I have is to paint the chrome rings to a "satin" finish, I think it will still make a nice contrast without getting all that chrome around

Exactly. I've asked and asked everyone I could find at local BMW, country BMW, US dealer levels and in forums. Answer - basically tough tootiues, so sad, too bad. Simply ridiculous that there are no options for black wheel or black grill even more ridiculous not even with M-Sport which has black roof rails... My white F15 with black wheels, grill and roof rails looks awesome.

I get that it's perhaps more difficult to add a build option at this late date, but for gods sake there isn't even a dealer accessory install or BMW parts buy option. BMW could double dip, get more $$s - pay for the wheels and grill in the build price and then pay again as a dealer installed option.

If by end of October if there aren't BMW parts accessory options for black wheels and grill I'll be cancelling my December build M50d order. I may cancel it anyway just on principle.

If you want to be an early adopter or what I call BETA user then you have to understand that there is a high probability you'll face issues with the build and miss out on desirable late release packages.
You keep repeating that as if its cast in stone It’s not. My experience has been the opposite. By buying the first out of the box you have a “new” model for the length of that model. My 2014 X5 has been nothing but reliable and looks exactly like a 2018 model. Same for my 2011 535i which I picked up in Munich in 2010. Bmw doesn’t push out some half baked bug ridden beta contraption....and accents usually cost less to add than the increase in cost in subsequent years of the vehicle itself ...penny wise and pound foolish to wait for those things.
