Totally agree... look like they came out of a salvage yard.

Nicely put. I too have a 2015 X5 (bought in 2014) and it has been virtually perfect. Only mod was blackout grill about a year after I bought it. Still have my 2009 (bought in 08) M3, which was ordered with the sight unseen and untested DCT. No problems, no regrets. Lots of mods.

Same here. I got a 2014 produced f15 that hasn't had a single issue which gave me confidence to order the g05 just based on some huge ass kidney grill pics lol.

Moreover nowadays m perf bits come out even before cars launch. Just look at the 3 series.

Factually incorrect. But, hey, to each his own. Wait on yours and pay more while we’re driving ours, no problem.

Perhaps another spin on the topic. Maybe BMW have decided on a style/look, a vision, that they want to establish for the G05 to differentiate it from earlier X-models (F15 in particular) or a look they think will attract buyers of competitor SUV products - so big flashy chrome grill and big flashy chrome wheels are it. Having any 2019 model year options that detract from their vision (at build or dealer installed genuine BMW blackout grill or black wheels) are just not going to be allowed.

Of course black grill or wheels aren't for everyone but if you do want the option, perhaps a deal breaker if you can't achieve said, I'm coming to the conclusion it's going to be way too expensive if you want to buy a 2019 MY G05 and DIY.

I am actually curious to see the "M performance" styling pack. Not so much bothered by the grey accents on the exterior (for the m50d model) (except perhaps the grille). The interior had a nice alcantara / carbon fiber trim combination on the F15. Really helped the interior. As for the exterior, perhaps a front spoiler will be available like on previous models, even though I would personally prefer it to be just black and not carbon.

I just took off the chrome part of the grille it only took me about 15 seconds and is completely separate from the shutters. I’ll be painting them tomorrow. I’ll post pics after. Too impatient to wait for bmw to release them and $500 on IND is excessive!!!

Are you going to paint it all, all of the chrome? Or just the slats...What paint will you use?

Just using promoter and krylon fusion. Again it’s just a temp fix till the black kidneys come out from BMW.

I’ve used fusion a lot but couldn’t find gloss black when I painted mine. I found a Rustoleum spray that said was ok for plastic and used that and it turned out well, I thought. Good luck with yours.

I couldn’t find gloss black so I am just doing matte black for now.

There has been no official mention about it unlike the other M performance parts so who knows. People are speculating Spring though. Wait till you get your vehicle and if nothing available by then, u can do a wrap or paint like so many others have. I'm happy with my wrap. Or you can buy from IND...

I suspect it'll launch with the M50i and X5M personally I'd like to remove the active shutters

When are both models launching?

This evening I took some SONAX Polymer Net Shield to the Shadowline Black Exhaust tips. After I get the tips installed I feel I won't have the patience to wait for the OEM Grill.

This fall we will see the M50i but it won't ship with a black grill unless BMW has a change of heart. I'd assume the black grill will following sometime afterwards. M Performance (not full ///M) models have Cerium Grey accents

Looks like I'm going to look at painting the damn thing. I've got a good local shop. I'll see what they want.

I'm in the same situation. Still deciding if I want to paint the upper air flaps all black. What made you decide to leave the chrome bits as it is?

I’d wait for the OEM. It’ll probably be cheaper then painted chrome grilles that some are selling and chips will be less apparent.
