0-60mph in my 50i M-Sport runs yield a 4.19 seconds
The weather and roads are getting good here and I had the chance to do a few 0-60mph runs this morning. I am at 510 feet of elevation and 48 degrees out. My best out of 3 runs was a 4.19 seconds 0-60mph. I had slightly over 1/2 tank of gas. This particular flat road I like to use still had a few too many cinders for my comfort level so I am gonna wait until it is really clean before I do more runs to get a serious official time. I am gonna run this fuel out as it’s been sitting and get 5 gallons of Sunoco 94 and do some serious testing.
I said this a few months back and I am convinced under the right conditions the 50i M-Sport can do 4 seconds flat or under 4 seconds. You get the right humidity, temp, lose weight by limited fuel, and elevation and it’s gonna happen. It’s just a matter of when a owner nails a 3.9 time. What I found more impressive was that I could get 4.40 or less in every run. It seems like I could do that time anywhere. BMW greatly under rates the performance of this vehicle. I can see how C&D got 4.9 seconds out of the 40i in the right elevation. They probably could get 3.9’s with the 50i in those same track conditions. I have been talking this over with AndroidRobot with his runs and we both agree a under 4 second run is gonna happen on the forum this summer. He has already got an unofficial 4.15 at his elevation so it’s only a matter of time till one of us cracks the 4 second mark. Last edited by MystroX5; 04-23-2019 at 10:19 AM.. |

Yes! See, this is what I meant about how great the 50i is NOW vs. those folks wanting to wait for the M50i. The car is already amazing

One trick is to raise your tire pressure 5lbs over to reduce rolling resistance. Weight is the enemy so dont leave alot of extra stuff in the car. Even the weight of the wheels plays a factor. I am running 20"ers and would love to get a forum chart on what the factory wheels weigh from 20"-22". Rolling resistance in width of tire and weight of tire can be a bigger factor than many realize. You wont believe what Chevy, Ford and Dodge does to get their times. They strip the car of all their seats and carpets. The domestic car manufactures really cheat to get their performance specs. My 911 C4S responds well to the type of gas and octane. Its the way Porsche does their programing. I think the 50i will respond similar to the Porsche in what it likes to run hard and fast. Transmission efficiency is spectacular in the new X5. Horsepower gets all the attention but the transmission is every bit as important to real world performance. How BMW keeps improving a already fantastic ZF transmission is amazing. Not enough attention is focused on how good the transmission is in the new G05 X5. I too thought of waiting but my 50i is good enough for a family hauler. I'm actually considering if getting a sports car looking into the M8. Or maybe another brand for a pure sports vehicle.

I'm thinking maybe when the M8 Gran Coupe has been on its 2d or 3d year and any bugs worked out, I'll have this paid off and then as a fun driver......... |

That’s sounds like a plan. I have to be honest that the 8 series is calling me as well. I love the lines of the coupe.

We have a driving event coming up in May. I get to test drive the X3 M Competition and the M850i convertible. If no one beats me too it I'll post my thoughts on them. I found the information on the X3 forum and signed up for a drive, limited spots and you must sign up early to drive.

So, not a draggy or officially timed... I test drove a 50i last Friday (down Spicewood Springs if you are familiar with ATX) and had a new Range Rover SVR trying to keep up. Once we hit the highway (Loop 360) it attempted to pass me, and it just couldn't. Those have 518hp, and the 456 hp in the BMW was too much for it.

I'm curious to see how the M8 will be given another 100+hp and torque + M X-Drive among other things.

Dragy. I want to do some tweaks before I get serious with timing runs. My low elevation should yield 4 seconds or maybe sub 4. We will see. My wife could get 4.40 second times out of the 50i. It did it effortlessly every time. BMW really was conservative with their 0-60mph time of 4.60. I really think a sub 4 is going to happen.

I had a Hellcat and M4 running hard outside of Orlando to Daytona and we all three put the hammer down. I let those in front of me and neither the M4 or Hellcat could pull away from me as we all owned the left lane.
