Here is what I received from BMW yesterday,

"Please be assured that I have contacted the Connected Drive team regarding the updates. Please be advised that the 2019 BMW X5 vehicles have the capabilities of over-the-air updates. The Connected Drive team has indicated that the updates you are requesting will be released over the air in approximately 3 weeks to all 2019 BMW X5 vehicles that require those updates. You will not have to go to a retailer or pay for the update. As previously stated by myself and the BMW Dealership, having the service team update the system manually would be a charge for service and for the update. The retailers would not typically be updating vehicle software unless there was an issue with the vehicle. The Connected Drive also indicated that manual updates of the software you are inquiring about would not enable any new features".

I think we know that the software updates performed by the dealership has resolved these issues and activated features or that's what I am being told. We'll see tomorrow.

I would say highly unlikely that will happen plus they obviously have no idea what is in the updates since newer versions definitely enable the cornering lights on Laser lights.


EDIT: Now that I think about it, I wonder if they are talking about updates to something with connected drive and not iDrive? There seems to be quite a few updates that have been doe since. got mine, just had another one yesterday. It usually displays a message and says to check Data Privacy. Of course I did do an Update Apps and Services the day before so maybe it was from that.

Now you know my frustration! Neither BMW nor the dealer know. Here was another response from BMW,

"Our records indicate that your vehicle does not have the required equipment for the Corner Lighting option. Our office has information from the time of manufacturing, and sometimes an option is added after the information is entered into our system".

Following that I get...

"The Cornering Lights will work when activated in settings, under 40 kph and one of the three following situations:

> When the turn signal is used.
> When reverse is engaged.
> With large steering angles - turning the steering wheel sharply to either side.

To activate and deactivate the exterior light features on your 2019 BMW X5 xDrive, you would complete the following:

1. Select "Car" from the iDrive Main Menu
2. Select "Settings"
3. Select "Exterior Lighting"
4. Select/Deselect the features you wish to add or delete"


They are clueless. I just stopped responding.

In regards to who manages the software they told me the Connected Drive team is also the software team for the vehicle.

Last week i took my car back to Endras because it start pop up "Driver assistance reduced" message and the Endras BMW told me its because of sunlight the KAFAS camera is not working properly. When i esclated to BMW canada they have no clue what i am talking about and literally they go with what Service manager says. I am going to give one more chance then i will go with OMVIC /Court

Yes I know, that is why I asked him. The tech documents show cornering lights on both (as shown in his screenshot) but that assembly is not used in US and Canada. Other countries do have cornering lights in the standard LEDs from what has been reported here.

I think all of us can understand that software can be buggy but some of these issues are quite significant and worry-some.

OTA is not working as advertised
Updates are inconsistent

BMW need to get their act together and sort this out!😡

My car went back to dealer again and this the fourth time in 3 months after I picked up the delivery.
And it's for this reason I wanted to get the software update done prior to delivery. This morning it's in getting the update. This will be the second time it's been in the dealership and I've had it for 3 weeks (500 km). You should take it to my guys. The tech is really good.
