Went back to dealer today for them to fix my broken features after the .39 update. They called and said it was a failed update and it’s all better. When I get there I can now see caring car and the experience modes and they indeed did fix a few of the problems. But auto high beams is still disabled.
We got the foreman and he was pissed no one checked the car after that’s what I specifically mentioned in the intake. He suspects its a failed license key or activation code or something. Pretty neat idea really: the car software is licensed and stored in the cloud and then they restore the license post update. Just like iCloud. Unfortunately it’s not so easy to troubleshoot and now they have my rig another day. If it gets settled tomorrow .39 does seem promising. Assuming they can figure out how to load it. |

So far .39 is working great for me. Took care of a number of issues (I was running on 11/2018 .57 or something like that).
The thing is a bear to load and my dealer had challenges with it. Once they got it to load they kept the car overnight and tested everything in the morning. They said you need to let the X5 sleep and wake it up to make sure all is well. So far .39 has fixed my issues but I'm only two days into it. Only thing I do not like is the font size increased on the home screen and limits the RDS info from radio stations. |

Just dropped my 40i off for service and met with the foreman. He said 10% of software updates were crashing and required remote programming by some centralized group in (was it New Jersey?). An even smaller group had failures in modules that then needed ordering and replacement.
He said he *just* received a new update package last night and... fingers crossed... he says they claim to have fixed 3 crashing bugs. So we’re going to try it. Stay tuned. |

Are people paying for the upgrade or is it free of charge? Pacific BMW (Glendale, CA) told me there would be a charge to upgrade iDrive in my 2018 540i to the latest version.

It should be free when you are bringing it in for service or because you have an issue. BMW pays them to install it so you shouldn't have to. Hopefully OTAs will be up and running soon and it will be a moot point.

Speaking of the BC issue. It looks like they've made an update to fix that in .39. It shows the current gear for longer than it did before and then flips to whatever info screen I had on last.

I was told that they ordered one earlier in the week, but did not know where it is. I asked if it was coming from Germany and he did not know. He kept looking and said there are 9 wireless charging trays in the USA so he placed another order that he expects to arrive in 3 days. That makes me wonder if these orders have to be marked in some way to get such things that are actually in the USA. I am keeping watch to see if this can come in and be installed prior to a trip that starts next Friday.

Took car in last week for service and they installed updates. Drove home, everything worked.Next day screen display was almost black, could not read what it said. Later the screen was fine but the map is showing me being about 25 miles from where I actually am! Talked to my dealer and they said to use sos and ask bmw where it shows the car, they showed it in the correct location. Dealer was supposed to get with me today have not heard a word.

@RADmjk … We got a 2019.We toured the X3/X4 factory line, which is pretty much the same.
As an aside, EVERYONE should do the Performance Center delivery. It was one of the most fun things I've done, as well as seeing what the cars can really do. Plus we had the hot lap with Donnie.... wow. |

Did you have your connected drive account established, set up and the X5 added to it via VIN before heading to the PCD? From there, did they activate your ESA and all functions related to it at PCD? Meaning, carplay, connected services, Sirius radio, remote start, keycard, etc.? Thanks!? Hoping to follow in your footsteps sometime within the next 4-5 weeks.

I'm so glad you got to experience PCD for yourself. We too had the best experience there. The highlight was a hot lap with Donnie. What that man can do with an M3 is simply amazing. I think he was driving at 15/10ths. What a blast. |

I have same software since end of January. So far so good no problem except after sign up for free trail Wifi hotspot but there no data. It was not really big deal since I already have att nighthawk hotpot, I did not try to get get fix. I just made an appointment for 4900 miles maintenance and ask to get Idrive update to the latest this Friday August 09, 2019. Hopefully everything still work as it should after update.

I am at the dealership about to pull the trigger on an X5 and they are telling me my VIN doesnt require the July update so they will not install it. How do you get around that reason?
