I dropped off my 2019 X5 off at New Century BMW (Alhambra, CA) this morning for the July update. My service advisor confirmed that you can't just ask for the update, you have to have a reason for wanting the update and then the service dept. might do it. I told them carplay was not connecting reliably, which is true by the way. Waiting to hear if the service manager approves installing the July update. I have the new 3 series as a loaner, so I am enjoying it.

Only problem is that now lane departure warning doesn't work. Anyone else having this issue?

To further clarify, this icon no longer shows up and the safety feature icon in the middle of the console is red despite all safety features being on.

I can confirm the same new colorful icons on the app screen and one not shown "Climate Control Rules". I would expect this enables the rules to be made to turn on seat heaters/steering wheel depending on temp, etc. However, it just eternally says "...loading" after you click/touch it.

It looks like they've ditched Parknow for ParkMobile app. Caring car and Experience are new icons as well, but I really don't understand what they do.

As far as bugs, I now think my front PDC is not working properly or at all. I got within 12 inches of my garage door and the camera did not come on nor did any alerts sound. I turned on the camera manually and It was at the yellow stage, but still no audible alerts. Be careful approaching things.

Door open message was on the dash, but I was reversing down my driveway. It turned out it was not fully closed, but previously that would've resulted in the car being thrown into park and angry alerts from the car about securing the car from rolling. I hope that is a new feature because sometimes it is easier to move the car a smidge without having to close the door.
Ra4eva, have you noticed that the lane departure is no longer working with the July update. I wonder if that is related because of the front parking now being buggy.

Yes. I rebooted by holding down the power for +30 sec. I checked the safety feature menu and checked "all on".
Is there any other menus or settings I should check?

Was the car running when you reboot the iDrive?

I did not make a list, but during the open road driving this past weekend it seemed like 20 settings had to be reworked after the upgrade to 7/2019.39.

No, I did it after I turned the engine off.

Xeno, what's an example of one of the settings you had to change?

My 07/2019 update was done today. The comfort access lighting also appears to be broken. When i approach the car with my key, I no longer see the lights turn on. This technology was a bit spotty even before the software update, but it now seems totally disabled.

UPDATE 8/16- front PDC and lane departure appear to be working OK. I originally posted they weren’t working anymore but I see the lane departure light on sometimes. I thought it was always supposed to always be on so thats why i said it was broken. It looks like the power window button to prevent windows from being opened is not working. When it is on (lit) others can still move their windows.

I am hoping that the July update fixes the intermittent carplay connection issue. That was my biggest gripe about 3/2019.

UPDATE 8/24: Carplay connects 100% of the time after the July update. It's been 9 days and not a single failure to connect. Great! The lighting that welcomes you as you approach the car is no longer working though. I will mention it when I take it for the next service.

According to my dealership it's not fixing iPhone CarPlay issues as it turned out, and talked me out of upgrading for now. It makes sense because ios 12.4 came out on Jul 22nd, too late for it to align with July update. I'm very curious though if it indeed fixes it for you, perhaps I will need to insist.

Here is one example, but there were others I did while driving and I did not commit them to memory as I am facing 3 international trips in the next month:

So iOS 12.4 didn’t help you either?

I picked my car late July with ios 12.4 already on my phone. So I can't say how it was before 12.4 but with it and while on 03.2019 it's still buggy. It's not terribly bad but annoys me and spoils otherwise great car experience. It connects most of the time but when I have more than one phone in the car, and especially when my son paired his making it total of 3 phones (I kicked his phone out since then), issues started to pile up. iDrive occasionally just forgets one of the phones, like it entirely disappears off the list and I need to re-pair. One time it started showing up twice, or one time appeared by hex GUID # which I suppose was BT/WiFi mac address. I also experience laggy response, freez-ups, especially when going into Apple Music palylists they appear empty at first and only show up 1-2 min later which I suppose takes a bit to communicate and load from the phone. This normally happens at the start of connection first couple minutes of driving, when you want to select what music to listen to.

For what it's worth, I got my late build '19 back from the dealer yesterday and they upgraded me from 3/2019.35 to 3/2019.90. I still feel like there are some issues that didn't get resolved. No rear emergency brake intervention while using PDC, super late frontal collision warning even when set to early, etc etc. Apparently on fully loaded cars with KAFAS and pano roof they aren't upgrading to 7/2019 yet due to some recently discovered bugs with laser lights, lane guidance, and some high current draw from the pano roof. I did notice that on 3/2019.90 the pano roof opens fully with one-touch instead of stopping a few inches forward which is a nice change.

Yes certainly something is still iffy about this July update. I called Customer Service today (I'm in Canada by the way) and according to them, July update is not even considered being released in Canada, they do not have any communication about it. I was told the same by dealership - they were waiting for something end of July but it did not happen so they are still waiting. BMW is run by different teams per each country and apparently each of them makes relatively independent decision whether to release or not, or it also could be that localized Canadian iteration of July release (I am pretty sure considering different regulations etc. there has to be firmware version on per country basis) was not made available due to issues found in the main US-based version of it.

I can confirm that the July update has ruined the following features in my car.
- Lane departure no longer works
- automatic high beams stoped functioning
- front PDC comes on very late

New features: Caring Car, Experience Modes, Climate Rules, and Personal Assistant settings like enabling passenger detection to disable text message pop ups.

Compared to the 3/2019 version I was on, this July update was big.
Do you know what 'Experience Modes' is?

My 01/19 SOP 50i will be going in Monday to be updated to July SU.

Thanks

Experience modes is app which combines different car settings like climate is cooler / open-close sunroof etc. to appear as "Executive" or "Live" "Style" so to say. I find it useless personally. Nothing you cannot do / configure without it. It's just lazy man climate control plus sunlight level.
