2019 BMW X5 3rd Row Seat

Hello - does anyone know if the current generation X5 (launched in 2019) has a slightly better 3rd row seat leg room than that in the 2018 model ? I am reading that the 2019 wheel base increased just a little bit so I am assuming the 3rd row seating comfort is just a little better than its predecessor ? Anyone has any experience getting a 3rd row ? How is it like.. we have a 5 and a 7 year old who might use it sometimes.. Thanks Farhan

In the 2020 model, they are not pushing the 3rd row at all. It is a very tight 3rd row, but might be suitable for small children. (But aren’t small children in car seats in the 2nd row anyway?

The 3rd row is a special order option. They are really pushing people who need a 3rd row to get an X7, which is basically an X5 with a longer wheelbase. The X7 makes the 3rd row usable, but there is no additional space in the 2nd row.

I don't know how it compares with prior generation, but we are glad to have the third row in our 2020 x5. We use it 1-2x per month to drive kids around, and it's fine for that. My older kid is 5'9", and he complains it's too tight, but everyone smaller than that has been ok.

Not sure if bigger but it's made for children who are not in car seats IMO. My 8 year old daughter who's tall fits comfortably. I use it 1-2 times a month. IMO it's one of the better options to get; since you also get the adjustable suspension and more importantly you get the power adjustable second row. Oh and you also get fancy pillows for the 2nd row headrests 😂

So helpful. Thanks a ton for your feedback.. Our son is 9 years old and small in size so that will be perfect. Yes I read about the adjustable suspension and did not know that the 2nd row was power adjustable. Fancy pillows is very nice surprise! Thanks so much...

.

I test drove X5 for myself and bought an X7 for my wife. The X7 has noticeably bigger second row when you slide the middle seat back. If you were in an X7 the seat may have been slid forward which makes it closer to the X5 but it feels a lot larger in the middle. The X5 is good for the occasional 3rd row trip with 6-12 year old in my opinion. If much older it will feel tight and any younger and would then need car seat / booster which is a pain to take in and out of 3rd rows.

Very helpful - we have a smaller size 10 year old and think that an occasional usage of the 3rd row will be a okay for us in a BMW X5.
