Be careful of potholes!

Last night I had to drive to my friend's Mazda3 who hit a major pothole in Paterson NJ, it was raining so even harder to see potholes. I was being super careful since I just got my new car with 19" wheels. Everywhere I drive I see plenty of cars pulled over on the side waiting for tow trucks.

I hear ya. I backed off the Active Cruise Control's following distance just because of the craters.

I bent the hell out of one of my 19" wheels driving in Detroit a couple years ago. Absolutely brutal hit. The potholes around there are so bad that you can see right thru them to the ground below on the raised highways.

Thanks man. Same time last year I blew a brand new tire in a pothole on my way back home from the performance center near the GWB.

Love it when the road surface crumbles away completely down to the dirt underneath. That's always awesome.

After this winter, driving aroung the 5 Boroughs is like driving on the moon. My 20" RFTs have bubles in them from hitting craters.

I hit one on the Belt PKWY the other day. It was so deep that I though my car would never be found again after falling into it.

Back in 2012, i hit one on the CrossBX and spent the entire night at a tire repair shop. They actually did a great job, though. The 22" wheel I had on the X6 I was driving at the time looked like a slice of a pizza was missing from a pie.

Heartbreaking. Teeth jarring. Potholes. I hate them.

I've lost three tires and two wheels to potholes -- in my 550iGT (2 tires; one wheel) and my 650i convertible (the other wheel).

But I'm getting smarter as I get older. Last week when I returned home in a heavy rainstorm from Postdady's house where we had a coding session, I decided to bypass the 405-101 interchange -- which is often flooded -- and took a detour. While I'm not sure the freeway was flooded, if it was I'd be shorted out in the fast lane. Better safe than sorry.

Never hurts to be careful. Potholes and other road hazards are things to avoid in low slung and highly technological cars. Sadly, our infrastructure isn't properly maintained for them. (Whenever I travel to Nevada I can tell when I leave California and enter Nevada. The Nevada roads are better. In every respect.)

On the other hand, my i8's license plate anticipates an electrical short at some time in my future -- BMW ZZZT.

"The disrepair of German roads and bridges is at odds with a nation known for the autobahn and has become a symbol of an infrastructure neglect that may jeopardize the country’s growth prospects."

A full 20% of German bridges are considered in "poor shape and need repair or complete replacement".

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...nd-of-autobahn

And another article.

http://m.spiegel.de/international/ge...-907885-2.html

"the state's entire highway infrastructure is in desolate condition. Of the 100 bridges inspected so far, 80 are in desperate need of repairs and maintenance."

"Some 20 percent of the nation's autobahns and over 40 percent of federal roads need repair."

Nothing but "glass smooth" roads?

PA is getting pretty bad. Took the Miata in today and the whole drive was practically a slalom course!

If you live in an area with a lot of potholes, I hope you didn't opt for a 19" or 20" RFT setup.

I'm glad to see all those tolls are being put to good use (sarcasm) such as those $200+k/year Port Authority police salaries.

Word... and the fares seem to go up once a year now... yet no improvement... I wonder where that money goes, because it doesn't seem to pay for improving the condition of the roads around here

It's always better to drive a safe distance from the car in front just so you can see the potholes, or keep an eye on the car in front to see if they fall into a ditch and steer clear. One major reason why I sold my E46 with stiff suspension and got myself a Japanese daily, love it!

I drove in Bayern during the ED last year - highways are good, but as soon as you exit onto secondary roads - it's potholes' auto-cross time!

And that was before the winter hit and made things worse !

I live out in NJ now and I can't stand this shit. I know it's the winter but it's also cheap asphalt they use and it just basically crumbles like no-ones business!
