Picked up a new car this past week!

Been loving my ESS/AR 700 E92 M3 this past year, but I decided to step it up a notch. I still have my M3 (for now lol) but landed a great deal on a gently used 2012 Pearl white GTR premium. I must say.... these cars are VERY impressive bone stock, and once you start getting some bolts on + tune, they are insane!

Pic of her the day I purchased, last week!

Day before I took delivery of the car, I already ordered the SBD 700+ (E85) package, swift springs, Cobb V3 w/ TCM.

First thing I did was remove the damn wing and wrap the trunk in carbon and matched the roof as well.

Pic of exhaust and the mid pipe, down pipes and injectors. Still waiting on the 2 HKS/Denso fuel pumps, intakes, upper Ic piping w/ dual Tial Q's and swift springs. Installed the AAM Race mid pipe and the SBD 90mm street exhaust w/ custom pump gas tune (17psi) this week. Manged to pick up 20hp and 40tq over the Cobb S2 flash that came with. Car feels like a monster now on 17psi vs the stock 11psi. The FIC 1000cc injectors, denso/hks pumps, intakes, down pipes, upper ic piping w/ tial q's will all be installed as soon as everything arrives, then tuning on 20psi on E85!

Mounted the new wheels on her today w/ a square setup running 285 Michelin Pilot Super Sports on all 4 corners. Can't wait to get this thing to High Plains Raceway!

Sick ride man, I'm jelly!!!!

How does the tranny in the GTR compare to the DCT in the M3? Smoother, more jerky or about the same?

Well, the shift speed is hard to tell a difference. I know on paper the M3 DCT is supposed to shift at 80ms vs the GTR's 120ms. First to second is a bit smoother in the M3 DCT vs the GTR's. WOT shifting feels a bit more firm with the GTR and feels more direct, if that makes sense? I would guess it's because of the substantial torque advantage in the GTR vs the M3. (my 12' with exhaust and mid pipe on a 17psi pump tune made 537tq on a mustang dyno vs my ESS/AR 700 M3's 394tq on a dynojet) The GTR is still under powered vs the M (although very close, roughly 60hp peak less then the M3) it still feels alot faster. Hell, bone stock the 2012 GTR felt faster then the M3 up here in Colorado. However, when the rest of the SBD 700+ package arrives and we tune on 20psi and E85, I know for a fact the GTR will absolutely DESTROY the M3 in a straight line from a roll or dig and murder it in the twisties.

Thanks for the through reply!

How about the daily driving aspects of the GTR in relation to the tranny? I've read numerous reviews on the GTR not being daily friendly in D mode.

I often wondered if it was in fact that rough of a shifting tranny. Most dealers won't even offer test drives in them. I know the AP TCM flash is supposed to smooth it out some.

Just trying to get an idea of how the GTR in D mode compares to the M3 DCT in D mode. We all know the DCT can be jerky at times, even with the GTS TCU flash

If it were easier to get a test drive in one I probably would have pulled the trigger on a GTR instead of my M3. It was just too risky for me to drop 70K on something at the time.

Feel free to reply via PM if don't want your thread derailed by my questions, lol. Once again congrats on the new GTR.

Daily driving is give and take. The DCT in the GTR is much smoother in the upshifts, and due to the tq, even when kept under 2k rpm, it still pulls plenty to pass people. The downshifts can be a bit clunky compared to the M3 DCT. I have LC5 w/ BoTL uploaded now (LC4 stock in 2012's) It made it a hair smoother on the up and downshift. The suspension is stiff though. In R mode, it's very connected to the road and you feel everything! In comfort, it's a bit more dampened and softer, but still more aggressive then the factory M suspension. The KW Variant 3's on the M3 make the ride a bit aggressive as well, more so then factory GTR suspension. I plan on doing a very detailed write up comparing the 2 since I own both, and can chime in from 4 different angles (stock M3 vs highly modded, supercharged M3 vs Stock 12' GTR vs FBO/E85 GTR)

Do it! You will not regret it. I love the E9x M3, but even a stock 2012+ GTR is completely ahead of the game in every single category.

Super sweet. Thats the year and color I would have bought...UNTIL TODAY!!!! Test drove an R8 V10 and basically forgot about GTR's, AMG's, ///M's, etc. I followed the GTR when it was basically a sketch all the way through prototyping and full release. Driving the R8 is unreal and the V10 sitting inches from you is surreal. GTR performance/potential is nearly unparalleled, but driving the Audi really changed my mind about my next car.

Loving the GTR though. Great color combo!
