TPM and Key Fob Range Reduced

Hey gang,

Made some changes in the trunk:

- Added amp and subwoofer
- Added a Technic PNP subwoofer LOC harness
- dynamat’d the spare tire area, under the carpet. Avoided nearly 100% of the electronics under there.

Since these changes, I’m getting a TPM malfunction warning - it came back after I reset it.

My key fob has trouble being picked up by the vehicle. It’s like the range has been decreased.

What does the TPM and comfort access system have in common? Are they both in the spare tire well? Could the dynamat be interfering with these systems?

As I understand it, there's only one receiver for the TPMS, so if your sound deadening has foil on it, yes, it could decrease the sensitivity, acting as an RF shield. I do not know where they are located in the X5, but on older ones, that receiver was near the rear bumper.

Interesting update. I turned off the amp and my issues went away. So either the amp is emitting some EM noise or the speaker wire is. I’m going to see if I can isolate the amp from the plywood in the spare tire well. Right now it’s resting right on it, I’m going to add feet/spacers and see if that improves anything.

Figured out the problem. I replaced the amp with a newer version of the same model. Glad it wasn’t anything I did..
