I have this in my 50e. Driving for weeks and the cartridges are still 100%. Vents are open and it's level 3 (max). I don't smell any fragrance. I had this option in my 45e also and it was very noticeable. I don't think it's working. If this isn't working it makes me also wonder if the ionizer is working because I thought it's included in this part.

Called my dealer today about this. They checked my VIN and saw something about the ambiant air package. Ionizer and ambiant air does not work due to software issue. They expect a fix by April 2024.

Oh such useful info as I have the same issue. I’ve been thinking it’s just that I’ve not set it up right but since day one I’ve not had a single sniff from the ambient air (apart from opening the cartridges to put in the unit in the glove box )

I was thinking I’ll have to raise with my dealer next week as I’d come to the conclusion I’m actually not doing anything wrong and it’s actually not working at all!

TBH it’s been a bit frustrating as I’ve used up a good bit of time fiddling with setting and taking the cartridges out and putting back in. It’s a shame we can’t be notified of known issues like this to save all the time and effort trying to make it work when in fact it wont.

Yes, I was also fiddling with it. But I had it on my 45e and I was doing everything correct. I even installed also another cartridge Amberblack No2 which has a very penetrating smell that you smell directly. But I still couldn't smell it.
We did a roadtrip in Germany the past week and when coming home the cartridges were still 100%.

I hoped something was wrong so they could replace the unit. But now you have to wait for at least 6 months in the hope BMW releases a bugfix for it. But I paid for this feature...

But that the ioniser isn't working is for me a bigger concern.

My dealer is going to contact BMW to get some more info about this.

Yes and you have to complain about it because they don't contact you about it. I did a recall check with my VIN and nothing shows up but on their systems they see more.

Yes, I have exactly the same issue you describe, I’ve not had ambient air before so was thinking for some reason it only triggers when there is a need and not their all the time, even when it is switched on and at max level 3.

I have the ioniser on too, how do you know it’s not working, can you tell from the quality of the air or something? Again I’ve never had it on a previous X5 so I don’t have a benchmark to compare with…

Quality of air. But that's not easy to determine. I just thought, if ambiant air is not working the ioniser is also not working because it's the same unit.

Now I think the air is not as clean as in my 45e. But that can also be my imagination now I know it

Dealer will also give me more info this week after consulting BMW.
He said cars between a certain production date are impacted. My car was produced in June. When was your car produced?

But if not all LCI's with ambiant air are impacted I would think they can fix it now without waiting for months for a software bugfix?

Strange that only 50e has this issue with something as futile as ambient air.

Wow thanks for your feedback. Good to know, I also got the package mainly bcs of ionizer, dont like fragnances

How do I know if I have this option? Does not show on BMW USA online X5 50E configuration. My ‘24 has all options as it’s configured

It's not available in the US. But we don't have it also, but we paid for it

I’m pretty pissed off with the time I’ve spent messing with it to make it work all the time thinking I’m at fault. I wish they’d been up front about it as soon as it’s a known defect, especially one that’s endemic like this, pretty poor show.

I completely understand your frustration, and you're definitely not alone in this! This is my first BMW featuring this option, and initially, I just assumed that's how it was supposed to function . No scent, just another feature what the customer can pay for. However, after browsing through forums and learning how quickly these cartridges run out, I started to think that maybe my cartridges had the protective film still on as nothing seemed amiss

I don't think BMW USA has offered this option on any of US-spec vehicles (including 7s) for quite some time.
