Yes, I noticed it on the Black Vernasca seats on an X5 in the dealer showroom, but I was so busy asking other questions I forgot to ask them about it. This one was more visible on the seat bottom that the back rest.

Seems the quilted "extended merino" leather isn't quite as bad? https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1548322

I dont like the looks of those seats. The wifes audi q7 seats shoot that quality out of the water. Could be a deal breaker for me if my car arrives looking like that. I have a december build so i would have to think by then they would enforce some quality control.

BMW We Have a Problem!! The rear seats in my week 38 build are not what I would expect from BMW. I think they should be replaced once the quality is up to a level that BMW can be proud of for their product. |

I will reserve my opinions till after I see in person but it could go either way. Some hand stitched luxury leather stuff intentionally have wrinkling.
Audi seats that look wonderfully stitched are too hard and not comfortable.

FWIW, my week 40 build that I picked up today has Black Vernasca, and the rear seats have a bit of the "wrinkly" look. Haven't had the car in my garage long enough to look closely at them and attempt to conclude if the look is intentional or due to poor quality, and what impact if any it has on comfort.

Once you sit on them you will be on the wrinkly leather bandwagon I promise. I got a chance to sit in one and the seats looked like that. I definitely think it's by design and adds a ton of comfort over the standard run of the mill tight wrapped leather seats.
Wrinkly leather is where it's at!

I recently noticed in a YouTube review from CarWow that wrinkle free rear seats are doable in the G05. Clearly it is a QC issue with the seat supplier (Magna).

I agree with the OP that the rear seats in the G05 look horribly wrinkled.
When I saw it in person at the dealer I just wanted to walk away. I couldn't believe BMW would allow such poor-quality work to get by their QC. One poster said that it's more comfortable. Maybe so. But I personally cannot get past the look. I'm ready to order for pickup in SC but I just can't do it if the rear seats are going to look like this photo. Does anybody know if the upgraded Merino leather has the same problem? I don't care for the quilted bedding look but I'd rather have that than this hot mess. Maybe black is the color to get hoping that these wrinkles won't be as noticeable. Sorry for the rant but I love the G05 and I've waited patiently for a year. WTF is BMW thinking. I get that they changed vendors but that cannot be an excuse. Really totally unacceptable. Check out this photo and let me know if I'm off base here. I've also posted a couple of Jaguar SUV rear seats for comparison. No, I don't expect BMW to compete heads up with Jaguar on interiors, but the difference is staggering. |

When we first saw the rear seats in the X5 it took about 1 millisecond before we deduced the pleats or wrinkles were by design. To think BMW QC would actually let a design flaw that big pass is silly. Its like some of you are just looking for something to get mad at.

The F15 was the same everyone was complaining about the wrinkles when new when they first came out also, I don't think it got better, just people stopped complaining - seems the extended leather options came out better than the base leather, but just seems like feature at this point.

Oh yikes. I can see how a wrinkle here or there could be a minor quibble, but... really? Look at that pic that sygazelle just posted. That is the look of upholstery and seating that has been used for 8 years. It looks like the air had been let out of an air mattress.
Just sloppy. Not up to BMW standards, particularly for an 80k - 100k vehicle. |
