I just purchased a 2024 X5 with a 21” staggered tires.
Im looking for a recommendation for a way winter set of tires. As I found out there’s not much out there and was hoping for your input and recommendations Thanks. |

we also have staggered 21s, love them. we looked and there wasnt many options back in 19'; not sure now. we decided to get new set of 20s wheels and nokian all weather tires. best decision as we travel quite a bit to high country (we live in phx az).best of both world.
If you are planning to swap out winters and summers every year, imo, having an extra set of wheels is better. more tire options and a different look twice a year Last edited by dream54ing; 06-28-2023 at 10:09 AM.. |

I ran 21" staggered Pirelli sottozero winter tires on my 21' X3 M40i. They ran great in the snow and all around. They were the only ones I could find in the staggered set up I had. I just traded in for a 2024 X5 40i and intentionally avoided the 21' or 22" staggered set ups. They look great and run great too but it is too hard to find competitively priced replacements.

Ask any tire manufacturer about optimizing traction with winter tires, and they'll tell you narrower is better. Having the rear's wider also means if you're in deeper snow, you're digging a wider trench with the wider rear tires...everything that increases drag, decreases your likelihood of moving forward. On an open road, not a big deal, in snow, it could be.

Note that the smaller wheels will also end up being less expensive when you need to replace things. Depending on the wheels and brakes you have, your choice of wheels may be somewhat restricted to ensure clearing the calipers.
Also, since in the winter, stuff like potholes can be covered up by snow or ice, having a taller sidewall with a smaller tire has advantages, too. |
