Software never updated
Hi guys, my m50i is still running on a software version from 2020. I tried to search for an update both from my car and on My BMW but it always saying no recent update. It's been little over two years since I picked up my car in November of 2020 and it only updated once and that's it.
Anyone have this same issue? I saw some posts about system not working properly after a update but haven't found any saying they get no update at all. Is that just me or someone has this same problem. BTW, I didn't purchase internet packege for my car and is that why? I was able to remote engine start from my phone so I assume it has some sort of internet connection but just not for the WIFI correct?

I’m on the original software as well from when I picked up the car from dealer in 2021 ver 11/2020.36 I believe. I am having an update today at the dealer after showing them the SIB posted on the forum. I am going to see if they can enable anti-dazzle as well. I know all my previous coding will be wiped out.

Same issue. Car delivered 8/2021, software updated via phone on 11/2021, and nothing since. Prior to that 11/2021 OTA, I had changed some minor settings with Bimmercode, which I had to reset after the OTA. Perhaps that’s what’s causing the latest versions not to upload for me.
Oil change in a week so I will have them do it with the SIB in hand. |

Same here, never got updated. The software was loaded to car more than a month already and still no notification about the install. Got app notification on my phone that the software update is expired. I now left with 1 solution - dealer. Sigh……..I’m going in probably mid March before my warranty expired.

Someone recently posted that they got a notice for 11/22 OTA update...the 02/23 update is at the dealerships, but OTA is always one step behind (my guess is to give them a little more time to debug it). They generally won't update you to the actual latest firmware unless there's a problem on the service writeup, but the SIB will allow them to get paid for updating the firmware to the latest OTA version, if for some reason it was not done in the vehicle by the owner. I had mine updated last year because they indicated they found some software errors that prevented it from the normal OTA process...I did get the next OTA update and installed it without issues myself.

The use of BimmerCode didn't seem to be an issue for me getting OTA updates...unless one of the sessions messed up something else, but the last OTA update I got that went properly had had some things tweaked via BimmerCode. So, it's not a blanket telltale trigger to impact an OTA update, and it was the same for one other OTA update...I did miss one which is where they said something was messed up that prevented it from working.

It's a known problem which BMW has a TSIB for. Problem then is many dealers try to weasel out of performing the TSIB for the latest update. Most are afraid they will brick a module. |

Knowing about the SIB, and the test that found some errors that prevented it from doing the OTA update normally, it was all warranty.
If everything is okay in the vehicle, and you just want the latest, the dealer generally can't bill corporate, so to account for their time, you'll pay. If you have a nice Service advisor, they may suggest a 'problem' your vehicle has that would allow them to update the software as part of the 'fix'. Some OTA updates do not end up going to each vehicle, so there may be a reason yours doesn't get it. I think the 07.22 update was meant to go to all vehicles, and if you didn't get it was a valid reason for them to update it under warranty. |
