BMW X5 45e driver seat height

Hello everyone, I have just received my X5 45e and the car is wonderful!! The problem is that I cannot find a correct sitting position.

My height is 1,90 and on the bottom of the seat and the steering wheel on it’s highest position, I see half of the cluster!! It annoyed me so much, in such a big car!!

My seats are ventilated and I don’t know if that is the matter.

Is there anything that I can do? Does anyone has the same problem??

Yes 190cm. And my problem is that I cannot see the entire cluster due to my height. Of course if I was 5cm shorter I could solve my issue but I am not. I need either my seat 2cm down from BMW’s lowest spot, or my steering wheel 2cm up from its highest position.

Try moving the seat forward, lift the front, and recline the back some more.

I’m 1.94 (about 6’3) and have multi contour seats (not ventilated) , no issues with seating position and cluster visual

Since you are ok and you see all the cluster, the problem is on the ventilated seats. I believe that you also drive with the seat at the lowest postition?

It is my 5th BMW car and each and everyone had amazing seating positions. I have to find a solution for this car too. It is a matter of 2-3 cm and it would be perfect.

Did you try adjusting the steering wheel?

Yes of course. The steering wheel is at its higher position.

I'm 200cm - I can't see the bottom section of my instrument cluster. Its just not gonna happen, I've come to accept that. Luckily most crucial info is in the HUD anyway so I have just learned to live with it.

My issue is that for my height, my arms are slightly short. But, as I said, I extend the thigh support out fully, raise the front of the seat with the back fully down, then adjust the seatback angle so I can reach the steering wheel and see the full display. What would be wonderful addition, like I've had in a rental Ford vehicle, would be adjustable pedal assembly. That would give you that extra adjustment to customize things just right.

You guys are short. I’m 6’ 10” and never can see the bottom of the display. Just used to it.

Im also this height, do have the ventilated seats, and can see the cluster fine. As others noted I have the front end of the seat raised, and the back reclined, to get my head lower (reclined back) and further from the wheel. I think I have the wheel telescoped all the way out in addition to up.

The X5 is large from an exterior dimension perspective, but interior is quite small. It’s really the long hood and poor packing that removes such a large amount of leg room in the first and second rows.

Torso length between two people of the same height can be different so that can explain why one can still see the cluster while the other can't (maybe even a shorter neck).
(Sorry, I know that doesn't help with the problem).

The front row has more width from door to door and more headroom than a F01 7-Series. I can't judge in terms of legroom as this isn't shown on the drawings but I drove a pre-LCI G05 back to back with my F01 7-Series and the interior felt very spacious in the front. At least as spacious as my 7-Series. And I am 193cm/6'4". Had no issues with seating position/cluster btw.

Did you try sitting behind yourself at all? I’m only 5’10” and in my comfortable driving position, there’s VERY limited leg room in the 2nd row.

This is unfortunately true for all bmws. Coming from so called mid size SUV of about the same exterior dimensions, c5 leg room is small. I was told they put 50/50 weight balancing before interior leg room. In the front, hood is always long, engine is behind front axial. Rear, 2nd row back is in front of rear axial. Basically they squeeze major mass between wheel base. It is a sacrifice and dedication to their philosophy.

I did and I could sit comfortably behind myself. It's obviously not as spacious as my long wheelbase 7-Series but it was reasonably comfortable as there was still some room left between my knees and the seat. The F97 X3M that I drove right afterwards was a lot more cramped and I couldn't have imagined sitting behind myself even for more than an hour. The biggest issue was the door coming very close to the seat leaving no room for my outside knee whereas this was no issue in the X5.

But I think I usually sit somewhere between average and on the closer side in terms of distance to the cluster, for my size anyways. Of course there's seating positions that I could still drive in where no one could sit behind me at all. (E.g. having my legs almost straight.) I used to sit like that when I was younger where you could hardly sit behind myself in an E39 5-Series.

What I usually do in smaller cars to fit is to lean back as soon as the seat is in its lowest setting. That's obviously not acceptable for my own car but neither the F01 7-Series nor the G05 X5 nor even the F10 5-Series are small cars where this would've been necessary for me.
